My $11.95 house project. Our dining room has been morphing into my wife's "owl" room from the more formal look... The chandelier was 35 yr old from when we built the house, was brass, and wanted a change.. and i was sick of it. Planned on buying a new light, when my wife's friend said try spray painting it. Was going to throw it away anyways. So a few cans of spray paint later... thought it came out ok... it'll do...

After 14 days of curing for the gunite, work has finally commenced. The 12’ wide by 4’ high water/fire feature was erected this morning. Once the cinder blocks set, the 5’ water shear will be installed (..in the open space) and the remaining cinder blocks will be added to finish off the structure. Next up will be tile.

I think so. Once they finish the structure, they will tile the pool, spa and water/fire feature. After that they’ll do the decking throughout the yard and both outdoor patios, spray the pebble and fill the pool. After that they will build the outdoor bar under the covered patio with a Blackstone and a grill, and tile the wall behind the bar…..then it’s off to landscaping. Timeframe for completion is the end of the month. Fingers crossed.

Had painters in a month ago and completed painting three bedrooms and a computer/office room.
Once they finished, spent the next three weekends pulling up carpet and padding in said rooms. Pulled up all the staples from padding also. I elected to pull up the carpet myself as I had some areas in the floors that squeaked, so went and tightened down all the underlayment prior to having new carpet and padding put down. Was about 90% successful in reducing the squeaks prior to the padding and carpeting being put down. We went with 1/2" padding with a moisture barrier and Dream Weaver Reflections II Carpet with Pile Thickness of 29/32" The thicker padding and the higher pile carpet helped to absorb/ reduce the small amount of squeaks left in the floor. Still a little noticeable in a spot or two, but nothing compared to the noise we had prior. Going to work from the bottom side in the basement as I think I have a floor joist that is actually making the small squeak I have left Winter project is to reduce the amount of noise from the HVAC ducts. One project left this fall, waiting for contractor to demo old decks and replacing with all new decks in composite material.

Took about 16 hours to assemble this thing by myself. Degree of difficulty = 9.0.
Lots of many small parts. |

For a while I graced perhaps the USs biggest pool forum Trouble Free Pools. They practice this test weekly habit with associated chemicals. I've had my pool 3 years now and had the water tested once after initial set up. I tested because after a month of rain the management system was struggling to deal with the volumes of fresh water, so I added salt, chlorine, something else and all went back to normal. Honestly pools are meant to be easy and fun, not a job. |

We have had some aluminum ones and some wood ones at multiple properties and now buy only wood. Water would get into the aluminum posts and expand in winter and crack the posts. Not an issue unless you are in an area with below freezing winters. The aluminum also looks worse as it weathers with age compared to wood. Also note that snow load varies depending on the quality of the structure. The better ones have snow ratings.
If you live in an area that has occasionally serious storms with strong wind gusts, beware that wind ratings vary from none specified to very high. Now we buy only high quality wood ones with aluminum roofs, both A frame and Hip style roofs, from companies like Yardistry. We try to look for and wait for sales if possible since the big names are expensive. Spent 14 hours with 2 other experienced DIYers (one a professional carpenter) assembling a 12 x 16 Yardistry Meridian a few months ago. The worst part was peeling the plastic off both sides of every roof panel and roof trim piece. That alone took 3 hours. I helped assemble one of these a few years ago and the protective plastic film was much easier to remove. |

There is an Australian movie called The Castle, in it there is a line "can we move the toyota to move the ford to get to get the mazda" or words of that effect to access a car in the drive way. There is a process to achieve a goal .
And as in all building/construction there are delays, stuff ups and set backs. Well I have to paint the BMW in the garage before the garage becomes bedrooms. This was meant to be cherry red metallic....WTF |

Its actually going to be two bedrooms and an entry.
All I know when you paint a car, its a bit like painting the house, tiling the bathroom, building a kitchen; every second person you meet wants to know if you do a bit on the side. |

Framing for the concrete slabs to support the decking pavers began yesterday and continued into today. Tiling of the pool begins tomorrow (..water feature, water line, spa, etc.), and once that is complete, the contractors will pour the concrete and install the decking pavers.

Sedan_Clan Man, what a project. Looks great! Did you consider a slide from the top of the walls?

A few pics of the water line (..eye design) and spa tiles process. They made pretty quick work of the tile. Only the rain slowed them down!
