... because my boss, out of the blue, told me I'm doing a good job and I should keep it up.

I was very surprised because it felt very random. He must've noticed it too and said "it felt like you needed to hear that". And I really, really did. What a great guy, I'd been mad stressed the last few weeks, and while also dealing with a coworker trying to undermine me. I genuinely appreciate him and it really made my week.

Because I upgraded from a zinfandel to a delicious chardonnay tonight. I'm a changed man. Lol

Cheers to one and all.

You're fortunate. While my immediate supervisor occasionally expressed appreciation for my work, his boss (who wandered through my area several times a day) never said jack-$hit. All she did was violate the principal of chain-of-command and directly give me new assignments - something that thoroughly irritated my immediate boss.

I'm so glad I retired.

….I went through my USER CP, cleaning out the 7000+ threads I had subscribed to since joining this forum in 2006. While doing so, I got a huge kick out of some of the threads that have been posted over the years.

You've got way too much free time...you should be signing up for some overtime so you can get that GT3

…You're so right, although…..I'm working about 70 hours of overtime a month (…max is 120 hours) and it's such a drain. I don't know how some of my partners max out every month. Some take maybe 7-8 days off a month max. That's crazy.

I have a few partners who are just Deputies (…e.g…no stripes/rank), pulling in $250-270k annually……

……working the line. That’s bananas!

Honestly, I don't know how you guys do it. Mentally I would be drained from all the things that you have to deal with on a daily basis. You seem to handle it pretty well, or at least you don't show on here

It is draining and I have my days where I don't want to interact with anybody about anything. I isolate myself and just zone out. That said, I mostly handle it well because I draw a line between my professional life and my personal life; placing more emphasis and priority on my peace of mind and personal time/quality of life. I will not work on any of my scheduled 12 days off per month, so whatever mandatory O.T. I work is done during my 4-day work weeks. I had to stop chasing the money because it was impacting my mental health. I didn't want to turn into one of those people who lives to work. Venting in the law enforcement thread is an outlet as well.

Good for you. As long as you're doing the best that you can when you're at work, that's all that matters. And you sound like you are, and you like your job, so it makes it easier to do it.
Money is good, but it's not everything in life, it's nice to have it, but there's more to life than just making money. You figure that out already and if you didn't slow down you would be burned out before your time.

Today was a good day. Made pulled pork for the boys, in my smoker. It means a lot when they are happy and not just b/c we bought 8 pizzas from down the block.
