I got the oem short "sport" one and had a rubbery texture as opposed to some of the other stubbies which are metallic. Prefer rubber as metallic ones tend to get pitted over time depending on the weather and such.

be careful, i sheared the bolt using vise grips and had to take most of the interior truck panels out to reach the AM amplifier so i could remove the antenna housing. Previous owned used some strong ass adhesive to bond the two together!

Antenna Failed
After a year of holding the short antenna, i decided to put it in today.. i kept turning with pliers and it was no go... would not come off.. i was able to unscrew that thing under it and remove the whole base.. i figure ill just order a new base and put the shorty on it... so sad....

I'm extremely surprised this thread is so long and no one has recommended buying from www.stubbyantenna.com
Prices start at $13 including shipping and they have by far the largest selection of stubby antenna choices / colors. Each antenna is rated for reception. So for those of us who want the stubby look but also want good reception, they can find their choice on the site. Some of the antennas are 'variable length' or 'adjustable length', so you can play with it and lock it in at the length that you find most appealing + gives you the reception you want. Here are the ones that fit our Z4's: http://www.stubbyantenna.com/detail1...ey=BMW_Z4_2003 FYI - I don't have any connection at all to the website or owners. |

I have the I-series from them on my Z4. Works great. I really don't notice any difference in reception between this and the OEM one. Looks much better then the OEM too.

Ok, my antenna and base were corroded together. Despite the PB Blaster I sprayed on the seized pin, I could not get it to release and ended up shearing it off. I drilled it out and tried to remove its remains with an extractor (after more PB) and all it did was spin the base. I'm now going to order a replacement base & grommet to get this thing finished. Is there just the one retaining nut at the base of the amplifier module that holds everything together?

Thanks, good to know. Not sure if I'm missing a trim panel (just bought the car CPO in July) or not, but I can reach the amplifier module and feel the nut without removing any trim pieces.
