Dang...WTF! So DINAN was willing to rebuild that diff you swapped in? Or were they willing to let you try out another already-built diff altogether? How bad were the grinding? Did you end up with everything settled nicely with DINAN?

After reading EP's full story, I'm certainly going the ring and pinion re & re route. Who knows where DINAN gets their diffs? Probably high-mileage POS. I would never trade my mint low-mileage one for theirs.

The LSD though is definitely in question if you were to get a diff off of some random/unknwon person's car. |

They just swapped me another rebuild they had. The grinding was bad - you could hear it very time I made a turn. No problems with the current one (fingers crossed). And yeah, I did the swap early, so my diff was just past the break in period and I got one that was who knows how old? I wasn't thrilled about that... |

Woot, I'm getting my car back tomorrow. Can't wait to start the break-in process! Going down to LA this weekend to help hit that 1200-mile mark and then flush my diff out. And then DynoJet next Wednesday

So it turns out that the shop doesn't have the 3.91 shim kit on hand, so they have to order from DINAN
I might not get the car back for another day or two, or even three working days I'm praying that they can get their hands on a shim kit later today, or early tomorrow, and finish it ASAP. My SSK is already done though |

Got my car back! Four words: O M F G !
Barely any more NVH with the 3.91 gearing, and the SSK is exactly how I remember it from my first time test-driving it; perfect. |

Ughhh... now you've got me looking at 4.10s instead of lightweight wheels...
Since you've got both lightweight wheels and a 3.91, which do you recommend? I need new rear tires by the way, so now is a good time to buy the wheels. |

I've always felt this was the perfect street gearing for the Z4Ms, and I think the chip tune will be a good fit. Glad your enjoy the change.

3.91 for sure...it cost me $500 for the REM-polished ring & pinion (pretty damned good deal), and then $950 for the professional/legit install (also a damned good deal). That's a total of $1450 for the 3.91 , which is like half the price of a set of quality wheels + tires

The shop told me that the break-in procedure isn't too much about driving style anyhow; it's mostly just getting some mileage on the setup. Quote:
I was trying to go into it as unbiased as possible, and with not too high nor low of a expectations. I feel that 4.10 would be good for an otherwise stock car, but for me, I'm glad I didn't get 4.10's; especially since force induction is a possibility in the future |

Bringing this thread back from the abyss. Looks like AA now has Simon Handheld tuning as an option and this piques my interest as I can flash my car at home and have the option to flash back to stock anytime. Today I felt like I was living under a rock.
I sent an email to Viral with some questions. For power modifications, I am have been running the European M3 headers with relocated O2 sensors for almost 3 years now without an CELs and perfect readiness and emissions setup - passed NJ inspection (first one since NJ lets new cars slide for 5 years) last November without issues. My car dyno'd 295 rwhp (SAE corrected) with the headers before I put the Remus cans on. So I am hoping AA will bump me past the 300 rwhp SAE mark with the Remus cans. If I do end up getting the AA tune, I will post up detailed reviews (street and track) as well as a comparitive dyno plot. |

I've been Skeptical about this AA tune but from what I'm hearing the power gains sound awesome. I'm going down to PSI in Orlando on Monday with Pokeybritches and trying to decide if I'll get a tune or not.

In more recent news, I'm about to override the AA tune for a VF-Engineering tune, since I just got my hands on a VF570 S/C kit I'm going to miss the AA tune, as it has treated me well since day one. But I must have more powerrrrrrrr |

Just skeptical about the power gains. Everything from what I'm hearing is awesome though. Thanks for the info.
