I could, but it would not be an M54 anymore. Hell that s/c sound so tempting and can be done in less than a 30pack and half the cost to upgrade to an ///M with those horrid looking tail lights!

don't know it was ESS that was working on the convertion, basically they where treating it as a engine swap. so wiping the vin code of the SI ecu and placing my vin their instead. ran into issues with the TCE, if it where a manual car it would have been a open and shut case.

This thread rocks and inspired me to order the AA tune during the black friday sale- $391.
Found an 3 stage intake manifold complete on ebay for $120 shipped. Almost +50 hp while retaining MPG and reliability for $500 and a couple hours? YES PLEASE!! Next up is the sound generator mod. The N52 is one of the best sounding engines ever just too quiet |

Read it, did it.
Thank you, C, for this thread.
Everything went as described. But I was unable to detach the wire junction box from the metal bracket holding it to the manifold. I found it easier to remove the bracket underneath the throttle body from the manifold while junction box was still attached and it was still on the car. It was a bit tricky replacing it, but I was able to get the screws back in after the torquing down the replacement manifold. I invested in the AA Powergate3 and flashed the ECU myself. The car started right up when I was done. The car used to be pretty quick, now it's fast. And with the added torque and horsepower, it seems a better fit to the gear ratios. However I got to drive it again this weekend as I gave it to my mom and she barley drives it lol. Oh well..... But man what a car! Still looks excellent and has aged soooooo very well. I sold my 135 and am cruising in an i3 now. Little daughter came into my life so I had to go practical for a while. I'll eventually get back in the Z. Can't keep me away from that car for to long. I regret selling the hardtop. I tell you the Z forum is one of the best forums on this site. The 1 series and i3 forums don't hold a candle to you gents. Also theirs a lot of stick in the mud's on the i3 forums, theirs a lot of anti mod guys over their.... It's been a while since I've posted but just thought I'd say hi. Still planning to put the 135 I rear calipers on the rear to finish the job ...... Take care yall!!! |

Hi -C-, thanks so much for sharing this! I am preparing to do this mod myself soon, and I was wondering if you might be able to relink some of those photos for the DIY part. This would help me a lot! Thanks!

Thanks C!
I've been on the hunt for a 3-stage manifold for my '06 3.0i. What models (x3, 530) and years (06-09??) can I source one from? Any recommendations on where to find a good price? Thanks! |
