How do you get more OEM then where it's located when it became a standard feature. Also I don't have to have the ash try open to have my iPod connected.
Protip: Get a line out dock cable for the iPod, it helps it sound a little better.

^i use a car-charger for my phone, so the cigarette lighter needs to be accessible and i felt it was a neat setup with the ashtray aux input. granted, it serves the exact same purpose as the oem located aux input, and was a more expensive mod.

I didn't find it under the part you listed.
I found it as PKAUXINPUT* at http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462 Hope this helps. |

Okay received the aux input from tishers. First thing no instructions on the instalation? Thank goodness for the forum. Not so easy to remove the vents. You really have to use force to wedge a credit card in there! Honestly kind of scary until you get frustrated and just shove it down between the vent and the dash trim. Once that's done you can access the radio easy as the two screws are right there. The second part is removing the bottom trim to route the aux cable back up... Have to tell ya not easy as I couldn't get the back part to come lose. Finally after about 20 minutes I was able to route the cable around and underneath. never really got the back part with the heated seats button off? Then just plug and play. Overall for $68 bucks they really should include the cable and some decent installation instruction. |

^glad u were able to work the diy installation without too much trouble. there really wasn't a need to remove the aircon vents to access the radio head unit itself, i simply removed the plastic panel right under the hvac controls and used my fingers to route the connector cable to the rear of the head unit itself. the aux connector is literally plug and play, so u just have to 'click' it into place. $68 is for an oem part and, of course, bmw would NEVER be expecting their customers to install accessories themselves....

installed, but not great signal
I just installed the E46 kit into my '06 Z4. Mine was the Business CD with no NAV.
My unit didn't have the connector at far left with black/brown wires. The slot was completely empty. I ended up removing the the connector cover, but since I didn't have another connector to move the pins into, I ended up just using this 10 pin connector and plugging it into the 10 of the 12 pins. AUX is always available, but when I have my HTC EVO hooked up, I have to crank the volume REALLY high to hear it. Clarity seems ok, except there seems to be much less bass response then normal. And when there are bass thumps, the stock speakers sound like they are maybe clipping (just not sounding right). I don't believe that the E46 wires have resistor + 2 capacitors in it. Are these necessary for proper signal ? *UPDATE* So it's my damn HTC Evo, putting out a sorry signal. I plugged in my 5 year old ipod shuffle, and the sound is solid. Anyhow, total cost was $39+tax, and I installed it into the panel below the A/C. Last edited by denial512; 03-11-2011 at 10:26 PM.. |

I just installed the ashtray aux input from bavarian, but I am having an issue getting the supplied screw into the factory hole. It is the last step and everything looks great except for this. Any suggestions?

the holes should align perfectly for the supplied screw. i'm presuming u've tried wiggling the ashtray (it should fit very snug anyways)? otherwise, the screw isn't essential to secure the ash tray.

Aux install went well
Just wanted to say thanks- This info was really helpful. I ordered the Part from Bimmerspecialist.com : part #82 11 0 153 367 - GENUINE MINI - and the install took like 30 minutes from start to finish. It was really straightforward and splicing the pins into the existing adaptor was incredibly easy.
$40 bucks and a half hour did the trick- now have iphone tunes in the Z4 and can talk through the phone when it is connected to the aux. The only thing I did different was I used a stiff rubber cooking pan scraper to gently pull out the center vents once i used two small flathead screwdrivers to pull down the tabs. This is the kind of scraper I used: http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-In.../dp/B002BFHY4C You probably have one in your kitchen. thanks |

I got a 2004 Z4 a few days ago and my first DIY project was aux input. Went on Amazon and got a cable that seems to work great so far and cost only $11. Required a little more effort than the Mini Cooper OEM one, but also cost less. Definitely cheaper than the ashtray kit.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PL...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I bought a coiled aux cable for $6 as well. |
