I was being an ass intentionally to make a point. I missed the mark.

I worked in a small town in NC, about 30 minutes from Virginia border. Always lived 30min-1hr away because the town had fuck all. The best they had was a damn multi-center for bowling, billiards, bumper cars?, arcade, movies, and God knows what else was in there.

Yeah I didn't pick up on it. Sometimes things go over my head.

I would never expect her to pay. I may be old school, but I figure if I invite you out to dinner, I expect to pay. I know some in this modern day like to go "Dutch" as they call it, but I prefer not to - I *HATE* splitting a bill at the table. I'd rather "I'll get this one you get the next", but if they insist on splitting it I won't make a scene. Likewise, if they insist on paying I wont make a scene, and will accept graciously, but I don't expect that, and will usually disagree at first.

One of my ex girlfriends had an issue as she wanted to pay her half, but couldn't where I often took her. So we had an agreement - when we went to my choice of venue, I paid, her choice she paid - and it worked. I loved her local Korean restaurant that served great food and the staff were lovely - I also liked my favorite Japanese one where they served great food and the staff were lovely too. Meant we could both enjoy what we liked, and stick within our means.

People have forgotten the older values. You invite someone, you pay. End of story.

Further, one of my fav sports, and this is generally the action of the distaff is to observe them at lunch at a generally expensive restaurant divvy up the bill when it comes. Most of the time these ladies are married to men of means but you'd think they had saved up for 2 years for this lunch. They go on for 10 or 15 minutes about who had the extra shrimp cocktail and why is this damn vodka tonic on my bill, I only drink Bloody Mary's.

It happens time and time again. Generally with the same ones. It's pathetic.

Like you, with my friends, someone picks up the whole thing and a different person gets it next time. We've been friends for 45+ years. It all comes out in the wash.

The more I spend time on dating apps or dating in the general world... the more I realized the world has gone to shit... and rapidly... years of feminist policies, career over family and mass communication w the ability of apps, social media etc... has ruined what was once great.
