I'm assuming the answer was no anyway since there was no follow-up. But the FIA should have told them face to face.

I'm not so sure it is a case of equally shocking business practices on both sides. Most, if not all, small to large corporations and businesses today use Information Technology software to filter out spam from external email sources. It's pretty much a standard business practice. However, email(s) originating from FIA domain(s) should've been safe listed by Team Andretti. Which brings up the question; "Did the FIA staffer send the meeting invitation from a personal email domain?" Whatever the case, and considering the magnitude of the meeting invitation - e.g. travel, scheduling, costs, personnel etc. etc. - one would think the FIA would've been professional enough to extend the invitation personally via telephone and snail mail.

Over the years we have seen the lack of FIA professionalism on many occasions. One only has the enter the words Max Mosley into a search engine to see what I mean. Not to mention their handling of the 2005 U.S. Grand Prix at Indianapolis where driver safety was thrown to the wind and chicanes for limiting banking speed were rejected. No my friends I would say Team Andretti and GM are on the receiving end of the clown show world we all live in today where incompetence among the Davos crowd is the order of the day and the phrase, "didn't you get me email" counts for a sort of get of jail free business card.

Just to be clear...The Formula One Management (FOM) (Liberty Media) is the entity that turned down Andretti Global's application to become the eleventh team. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) gave Andretti Global the go ahead to become the eleventh team by approving Andretti's application.

Certainly agree that Andretti are the overall `victims` here, the `cartel` win again

My enthusiasm for the `sport` diminished towards the end of last season, I reverted to a `highlights only` channel due to the over extended BS hype of the main provider. This current fiasco only serves to reinforce my apathy

Again, the left hand (FOM) not talking to the right hand (FIA). What a bunch of idiots. Since when does a Media Group (Liberty) rule the roost over the sanctioning body? I must've been sleeping when that earthquake took place.

But they did communicate. On October 2, 2023 the FIA announced the approval of Andretti's application and stated that Phase 3 (Successful applicant referred to FOM for commercial discussions) had taken place. It took till this week for FOM to announce the turn down.

So what exactly was in Andretti’s spam folder which they say they knew nothing about?

"FOM claimed they had extended an invitation to a face-to-face meeting with team management, but had received no response."

"In a statement from the team to RaceFans, Andretti representatives denied knowledge of any invitation to meet with FOM to discuss their entry into the championship prior to their rejection of their application."

Later, Andretti said the invitation went to SPAM.

Interesting insight/speculation why Hammy went to Ferrari.
Of course 7 months ago, Hammy wanted a 3 year contract plus ambassadorship at MERC.
Merc only gave him a 2 year contract (turns out 1+1year style) and no ambassadorship.

This means Hammy wouldn't have a contract for 2026, which is the first year under the new regulations, and realisticly, the first year either MERC or Ferrari could beat RB if they do their homework. (this year and 2025 are likely to be dominated by RB)

So if Hammy wants to get the safest bet on an 8th WDC, he has to have a sure seat in 2026 at a top team, and preferably earlier so he can grow into the team and help with development etc etc.
Ferrari gave him that oppertunity .

Also, with Hamilton leaving, some engineers might follow him to Ferrari. That brain drain could also be a big hit for Mercedes....

Don't forget this famous "move" to Ferrari that made for an incredible winning "mix"...

"In 1996, Michael Schumacher was followed from Benetton to Ferrari by technical director Ross Brawn and chief designer Rory Byrne as well as other key Enstone team members, all of whom were identified by then Maranello boss Jean Todt as key elements of a winning package."

Looks like 'Bono' from Merc will be following HAM to Maranello from Brackley and possibly Musconi also as Wolff loses key team members.

SAI will either take a gardeners holiday in '25 or join a rally team, news is that he's been offered a ride by one but I don't see him taking up the offer before joining Sauber/Audi F1 all being well for him.
