Annnd not to mention, a local vendor is an authorized flasher for Active Autowerke, so it made the process easier

If you research on m3 forums Ess is 3rd. The main choice iss evolve followed by epic.

ESS was the first tune for our cars. However as more tunes came on market interest in them faded. I didnt use them because they never responded to any of my questions and i found people were leaving their tune for others. Doesn't mean their tune is bad, just other tuners were able to inch out a few more hp and had better customer service.

There are lots of dyno threads for m3 that show better gains from evolve for street and epic for track.

Look at the quick jump even by z4m guys on evolve tune. Do you see that for the others? Follow the market to seethe current favorite. Like i wrote before i picked epic and am happy. Others chose ess, active or evolve and are happy. Cant go wrong either way.

Why would you compare what happens on an M3 site, when (for the hundredth time) our DME is completely different? Evolve is finding this out the hard way & having their own set of issues tuning the Z4M as we speak. So your 1st, 2nd, 3rd makes no sense.

Compare apples to apples.

I have ESS and it is a great tune. I run a secondary cat delete with RPI scoops and the tune really help with extra air flow!

Well aware. Never said they are the same.

The companies that make the tune are the same. So you can see the feedback of the company and their respective tunes.

Do you research the company that makes the product or just the product before you buy?

No one's questioning the pedigree of each of the tuners out there. What should be researched is the success any of these have with our rides. Having success across a different platform is all well and good, but I prefer choosing a company that has documented success as it applies to the Z4M specifically.

Did ess have all the data at the time you made your choice? Did you cross check if others had issues with their tunes before you bought? Asking as i dont know when you made your choice.

I checked other forums and comparable products before i picked mine. Feels like we've had this agruement before. Lol

I added my experience to help. Not to bash others.

All good bro, no argument. I bought mine in 2011, and there wasn't a lot of cross-checking companies; ESS and AA were it. Both had good reviews and no issues. ESS were the first to break our CPU, and Roman/AJ were concise & went over everything from A-Z. Another reason I went with them was for future FI consideration, as they give a discount if you've bought their tune.
