edit: for those looking for more power and more room, it looks like an HPF m3 would be a better option

That's why F1 is going w turbo'd 1.6L 4 bangers on the 2013 season. Ah well. So long the sweet sound of that screaming 8. On topic, I'll keep my M Coupe over the 1M. Still looks like a pug (a face only a mother could love)

Also... I'll take the $-difference and slap a SC on my ride. That way, I'm not sacrificing any power and kept my exclusivity and good looks. My $0.02

I wouldnt trade the Moupe in but I think the 1M will be the best DD M car to date. Low revving engine (relative to the modern m cars, excluding XMs) with high torque will be fun around town. As odd as it sounds, my dad and I are deciding between the 1M and a Boss 302 for a daily driver.

Love my 06 MR. Paid it off and at $14K off MSRP. With a hardtop it is great. The 1M does not impress enough to consider it.

How could it be "M Division Tuned" when the Z4 35is and 335is use the same engine(with slightly less (320hp) in the 335)? It seems a really lame effort under the hood IMO. The rest of the car is cool with the bodywork, interior, suspension, brakes and M differential...

Then the 1M is an "M" car because it has been totally reengineered to M standards, not simply a sport spring/bumper package. It's powertrain is what's best available for it at the moment. V8 would be unreasonable, and what non turbo I6 does BMW offer right now that could be used as an M engine. The e85/6 Z4M got it's engine from the M3/Z3M Coupe. Since the new M3 engine doesn't work, they have to get the best engine they currently offer -> N54 w/30HP bump, overboost, and an exhaust. |

I'm coming up on 3 years with the Z4MC this month and have to say I still enjoy pretty much everything about it - the sound, the looks, the drive. The car has a lot of character.

Not the least bit tempting. It has an aggressive look but still is a bit homely and doesn't even come close to standing out like the Z4M.
Performance specs are interesting but that wouldn't be enough to for me to even remotely consider changing. I'm not looking for rear seats either. |

That's with driver, luggage, and gas. Assuming the driver + luggage = ~200 pounds, you're looking at a wet weight well below 3300 pounds (and well below the 135i).
The normal N54 is more like 330hp than 300. I'm betting this engine will have more than 300 horses at the wheels when dynoed. The figures listed there are to protect the M3. |

Agree, I don't think the engine is nearly as rugged as the S54, the HPFP not withstanding, the wastegates are known to be an issue, the excessive carbon buildup due to the direct injection is another issue and the throttle response isn't nearly equal to what the N/A M engines have been.

Im not too impressed with what I have seen of the 1M. It looks like a rally car in the photos. Appearance-wise it has nothing on the Z4M coupe imo. The 1 series (and 1M) just dont look all that sporty to me. For the money I would probably rather get a pre-owned E92/90 M3.

If the driver and passenger are both over 6', that is the case. If the driver uses a performance vs gangsta driving position, a 6' passenger can sit behind comfortably with the knees just touching the back of the front seat. Basically the rear of the 1-series has as much room as the E46 - we have a 135i and had an E46 and regularly put a 6'2" passenger in the back for long journeys, his head just touches the roof lining.
