Hey Guys,
Sorry for the delay in this. I am VERY serious about getting going into manufacturing composites out of my garage. I have spent the last few weeks building my home composite shop, and am nearly finished. Here are some pics of my setup: (bare in mind its not complete yet) My HD Work table: Materials Storage, Fabric Rack, and cutting surface: A Picture of the inside of the Fabric Rack as well as cutting surface: (Note I haven't put the roll rods in yet, last piece to finish) And a Messy Picture of my main work bench which also isn't quite finished yet: I will be placing a large material order this week to get going on mold building. We are still looking at a few weeks out yet before I start producing some ready-to-ship parts. So STAY TUNED!

Also to update on my way of conducting transactions as well:
I will NOT take deposits. I will only take payment once the item is packed and ready to go. I will ship following business day 99% of the time. But I will get into more detail on this when the time comes... But anyway this picture will easily describe my feelings on this:

My steering wheel tabs are broken. I'm going to hold off on buying OEM pieces for a couple more months to see if you're able to get any CF tabs going. Very interested.

I'm really interested in all of what you are doing. I love the garage set-up as well. I am thinking of ideas to get mine set up somewhat like that. Keep us posted.

I've been searching (on and off lately) for actual CF mirror caps and almost pulled the trigger on some E9X style since they only offer vinyl wraps for ours. I alos like the steering wheel spokes, plastic trim inside, most of what's been said!

You have built a incredible work space. I too have wanted to start CF fabrication of some parts. It's to bad I am not a little closer. I would love to help out if you were looking for an extra set of hands. Subscribed

Let me know if you need any help with Resin Infusion or VIP . Making masters/bucks and mold building will be your initial hurdle and time consumer. Your going to need a longer rolling work table to get going smoothly. I built mine out of 4x4's and 6 wheels @4"steelies.That unit also held a roller feed for cutting bulk when mold making.....or CF for material schedule cutting. You'll want to buy a big sheet of white delrin 1/4" think for bulk cutting surface to make your rotary cutters last longer. Make some good tape dispenser racks that are easily dispensed for masking tapes, vac bag tapes etc. Your resin cart needs to be well thought out also.....that way it can be moved right up to your work areas, then rolled away for more foot area. Start off with something simple....like full interior trim caps,(6 pieces) that can adhere over factory trim with double sided 3M tape. As long as you do Vacuum Infused Resin techniques...your backside finish will be superb and you'll experience the least amount of texture print-through.Thus reducing the amount of final clear-coating needed before polishing. If you do wet lay-up and open mold.....the results will be sub par and very slow going...not to mention smelly (if you have a wife or neighbors). Those would all be a low engineering effort and be female molds. That would keep most non-DIY'ers from any limited drama. Cheers,Vinny Last edited by Twisted Six; 01-31-2011 at 04:51 PM.. |

+1 as well as all interior trim pieces to replace my brushed metal look. I would also like my rear center console facing to be cf. Ashtray cover would also need to be done for consistency. I have all of these pieces done in my wife's 06 325xi wagon and looks very sharp. Better than factory.
A battery cover would also work well. Can you somehow wrap/replace our shifter handle silver finish?

by the way Rated M...you think it would be possible to make the interior parts in a satin shade, as opposed to the glossy in the picture i posted?
If so, count me in 100%!!!
