Is the TPMS coding easy for an average Joe to do? What would I need to get it done? Or is a case of beer and directions to your garage all it takes? |

to DIY you would need to be set up with NCSExpert, but I don't mind helping out if you're stuck

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the community. It's really cool to see everyone's projects and their cars. This site is an invaluable source for the M Coupe, thank you all for sharing your knowledge on our cars. Now to mine...it's a 2007. I have it on custom offset Avant Garde M510 wheels. Fonts are 19" x 8.5" ET 40 on Pilot Super Sport 245/35/19 Rears are 19" x 9.5" ET 22 on Pilot Super Sport 275/30/19 Tires are flush with the fenders...fronts have a bit more room but I'm happy with it. On stock suspension. KW V3 coming next year. No rub anywhere or under any type of load from acceleration, braking/turns etc. Cheers, Rui. |

I believe the fronts weigh about 25.6 pounds and the rears slightly more. Fronts are a flat profile wheel whereas the rears have some nice deep dish to them. BMW center caps don't fit them so what I did was order 68mm BMW logos from BMW, sanded the inside of the logos and the Avant Garde caps, superglued them on the Avant Garde Center caps...the fit right in and if you take a close look at them, they look like they are original bmw center caps. |

The rears will be fine...no issues but my opinion is you will have issues with the fronts without camber/fender rolling/pulling. Just my opinion given the setup I'm running.

Last setup above was sold too quickly. Now someone locally to me selling something really nice but not sure this fits. Would look crazy nice if it does......... my Z4M is slightly lowered as well. Seems to be a good time of the year to find wheel setups.......

Hey dudes,
I'm pretty stoked about the Apex group buy for the new FL-5. I currently have 19" but want to return to 18". I want the widest staggered rubber that fits without rolling fenders or anything like that. Can any current Apex owners shed some light on your setup with pics? BTW my Advan RS set will be for sale! with Bridgestone RE-11.

I have a chance at buying some Forgestar F14's but I'm concerned that they are too aggressive at the front. I'm on H&R springs lowered about an inch. Can anyone comment on whether I'll see any rubbing? I'm not interested in fender rolling or camber adjustments.

1. Stretched tires - those tire widths are a tad bit on the narrow end for the wheel widths 2. Different Front/Rear rolling diameters - this may throw off stability/traction control? This can be somewhat mitigated by using 235/35 up front, but that may worsen the rub factor? |

Plus you want to leave some wiggle room for different tire branding/tolerance differences. I don't think you would ever want to max out without leaving some wiggle room.

So after running my 255/35 275/35 r888 set up on arc 8s in 18x9.5 et35, 18x10 et25 for a couple years, I want to run a squared set up to have the ability to rotate tires. Only problem is r888s are directional and would require remounting and balancing every time you want to rotate (not the biggest problem).
I would like to run the arc 8s 18x10 et25 front and rear wrapped in 275/35 r888s. I know the rears work, and I have tried to run the rears on the front before and with my current set up (very low on coilovers and camber plates, with neutral toe, -3.3 camber each side front and rear with front and rear fender liners and lips trimmed leaving 1/8" for strength). The fronts rubbed with the fender lip up top under heavy bumps and suspension compression (can fix by raising the car atleast 1/4, maybe 3/8-1/2", don't want to stiffen coilovers much more) but also appeared to rub on the fender liners in front and behind the tire at max lock. This would say the tire is too tall, but there is no smaller aspect ratio 275 tire for 18" Diameter. Maybe a small 3mm spacer would kick the tire out enough not to rub? I prefer my set ups to be aggressive with little rubbing on the street and some on the track. Honestly rubbing doesn't bother me on track as long as it's a relatively short time period and minimal contact area. But rubbing in a parking lot would result in heavy damage during higher speed, higher forcing situations on a track. I recently wore out my front after an absurd amount of time 11k miles and 11 track days) and just replaced my rears in the spring (2k miles and 5 track days on them with little wear) therefore I would prefer to keep running the 275s I currently have (probably flipped sides to even any wear I may not be noticing) and pick up another pair for the front. I recently built an s2000 and managed to stuff 17x10s all around with 255s. I rolled and even mildly pulled the fenders. Has anyone done any minor fender work on the z4m? |

I didn't want to run them in 9.5 as slicks runs wider than r comps The only thing I found to my solution is to get fender flares. Let me know what you did to make it fit.

Garage List 2006 Z4MR [0.00]
1972 For Sale Datsun [0.00] 2001 Dog/kayak haul ... [0.00] 2010 Daily Driver H ... [0.00] |
I just bought a 06 Z4MR and just joined the site. Not sure to reply here or elsewhere. I see last update was 07. I need some answers. I need tires really badly. The Pilot SS are nearly smooth on the rears. A few days ago, I was going to order some Nitto NT05's in a 235/40-F, 265/35 - R under the advice that they will give me a large contact patch and improved handling, compared to the stock size of 225/45, 255/40. I have some budget constraints. ( really should have sold my 72 Datsun 240 Z with 300 HP before buying Z4 M...Datsun for sale... ) Anyway. Now that my research tells me for the best grip in a ultra high performance summer tire, the Bridgestone RE-71R seems to get the most high ratings from the forum. For an extra $ 400 I now think is is worth the extra cost. On my stock " light alloys " which come to find out, are not all that light. ( Plus they need refinished, as they have the coating wearing off them in a few spots, dealership says for $110 per wheel, a company comes in and doest the work, same day, amy thoughts on this ? ) As I now have versed myself in offsets, staggered setups, spacers, backspacing etc. I've learned some, but now have more questions.
1) For spirited weekend driving, with perhaps a visit to the 1/8 runway in town, perhaps some fast Auto X and maybe looking into HPDE, what should I really look for when tire shopping/comparing. 2) Is it true that the wider I go, the more rubber on the road, so more grip in the curves 3) The 200AA rating means they will wear out quickly and wouldn't I want a AAA rating ? 4) If when using the Tire Size Calc. my decision to go 225/45-255/40 to 235/40-265-35 when comparing them on the calc.. (A) my front Diameter Variance is -2.29 my Rear DV is -2.80 (B) so actual speed is 2.25 % TOO FAST-Fr 2.88 % " " -Rear (C) Rev per Mile Fr- 800.85 to 818.85 Rear- 799.03 to 822.03 Maybe I wrong, but doesn't this mean I have to have 18 MORE revolutions - Fr 23 MORE revolutions- Rear So this tire change would slow me down in a straight line ? I don't want that. (5) Staggered VS Squared ? Since the front and rears are different ET 42-F/ET 30-R, what is the best tire size setup in the 18 inch OEM wheels ? (6)Lastly You State On your Post -Original Z4 18" wheel sets don't seem to have the proper offset to fit correctly. So what is the solution to your stated problem and to my fragmented thoughts. Anyone that has any knowledge of all of this, PLEASE HELP ME GET NEW SHOES FOR MY BABY SO I CAN DRIVE HER LIKE SHE IS MEANT TO BE DRIVEN.= getting the best tire for the best price, type, manufacturer, size. |

What do you think is the best sized rear tire on a 9.5 x 18 inch rim? For autocross and for overall looks? I don't want the tire to looked stretched and I don't want it bulging either. At the same time I want the fattest and meatiest tire I can fit.
Our original tire size is 255/40 18 on a 9 inch rim. What do you think is better? 275/35 or 265/35 |

SDCoupe 265/275 is in the right range, but it depends on the mfg
Too much emphasis is placed on "265" sizing method, what really matters is the tread width. E.g - a DirezzaZII 265 has a tread width of 10 inches - a Bridgestone RE71r 275 has a tread width of (drum roll please) ..........10 inches TireRack is a good resource for looking up tire specs. That said, for best tire performance (track / AutoX) the tread width should not exceed the wheel width. It should also be, not less than wheel width (ww) less 0.5" If tread width exceeds wheel width the side wall is in a structurally weaker position which allows more side to side tread movement/squirm. This produces more heat and less sensitive steering inputs. You don't want 'stretch' fitment either for obvious reasons. So, IMO the tread width of a tire on a 9.5" wheel should be .... < ww and >(ww - 0.5)

Great advice! I never thought about tread width.
Looking at TireRack I see that a 255/40 Michelin Pilot Super Sport is 8.5 inches in tread width while a 265/35 is 9.8 inches and 275/35 is 9.6. Interesting! The 275 has a smaller tread size than the 265 when both are mounted to a 9.5 inch rim. I bet a 10inch rim would flatten the 275 out a bit more. This new knowledge has opened a whole new world for me! Thanks again! |
