As the alternative to your news could very likely have been another forum member posting that both of you were seriously injured or much worse, I see this as very good news indeed today.
Ditto what everyone else has said. Take care and here's hoping that your friend makes a speedy and full recovery.

Wonder how it would have turned out in a roadster. Might have been a lot worse.

One of the things us Canucks try to learn and remember when winter driving is that when you get into a slide in the car on snow or ice, don't use the brakes or the gas. Just steer. For example, if the back kicks to the left, steer left. If the back kicks to the right, steer right. That allows you to regain steering control.
Loose gravel is somewhat similar to snow, I think. These things happen so quickly that its hard to react properly, even for guys accustomed to driving in those conditions. But anyway, I hope this is a tool that folks can store in their toolkit and never have to use. Once again, glad to hear you are both okay - or going to be okay!

Somehow, I'm thinking that my tagline isn't suitable on this particular thread.

Very sorry to hear about your situation. The lawyer inside wants me to tell you not to post the details of this story...
I hope your friend recovers.

If that is an indication of the road conditions, I can see why you had no traction. Definitely could have been much worse.
