Thanks Vane, your beastie is taking shape nicely, hopefully a bit quicker than my project!
Some more photos of bits and things, brackets for coolers etc. I'll look out for some dash photos, or take some more. Solid mounted diff has its own cooler. I changed the single main rad fan to two smaller pull fans with ducting up to the bonnet vents, made a BIG difference to under bonnet temps. This was another advantage of the engine being further back. Photos of this later. |

Is that dash panel commercially available, or was it a one off?
Also curious about your oil temps. I have a slightly larger oil cooler and am still seeing temps at inlet of 230f. I’m thinking about adding a second cooler in the routing. Something like a Setrab Slimline under the radiator. Do you recall the radiator you installed? |

The dash is commercially available, but at 1500us I'd have better things to spend my quickly ebbing cash :thumbs up:
(edit: OK make that used to be available.. https://www.ca-int.co.uk/single_prod.php?prod_id=1123 maybe email them and ask if they are willing to make another, I am sure they still have the moulds)

The dash is available from BMW, but it is very expensive, it comes in 2 parts, the carbon bit and the lookalike standard dash behind it, which is made from fibreglass. Both are bespoke and fiddly to fit, like most parts from Motorsport!
Vanne, the dash you linked to, is different to mine, I remember that one of the Z4 VLN cars had a dash from possibly Flossman, which was listed in his catalogue. It might have been around $600 ish a few years ago, but don't quote me!! It is in one of the photos on the link. |

Hi Michael, do you mean the size of the oil cooler for the engine or the water radiator?
There is very little room for adding stuff on my car, hence the compound arrangement of coolers, not ideal, but oh well! Motorsport used a water to oil cooler, but my application was somewhat different. |

I was wanting to know what radiator you are using for the water.
Also, what are your oil temps? Been noodling on a design to make my own CF dash. Even cut up, the stock plastic dash is fairly heavy at about 13 pounds. Of course, then this decision precipitates a decision on instrumentation. I don’t care so much for the available dash displays and kind of want to keep the analog look. Hmmm.... |

The radiator came from RadTec, it was from an E46 M3. I modded it slightly and mounted it at an angle, it's quite chunky!
Can't remember the oil temps on track, no warnings came up, wasn't aware of any issues, and it was a scorching day. |

As for the dash, I know it isn't as simple as one thinks. I was going to cut up a standard LHD dash, but in the end went for the carbon jobbie, to complete the package. If I can find the photo of the parts, I will post it!

Inner arch fitting and ARB mounting, which picks up lower nose attachment. The adjustable ARB, or sway bar, to fellow Americans, is available in various diameters from Motorsport. The ARB mount area is really beefed up to take the rigours of track use.

Fan arrangement: Initially I had a front mounted push fan, due to foreseeable space restrictions with ARB and oil pump. As the build progressed, I swapped to pull fan, which worked ok, but at the track, I didn't feel as though I had much margin of safety. It didn't overheat, but ran a bit hot shuffling about in between runs, especially as we had a really hot summer. As a winter project, I then fabricated a ducting arrangement to use 2 fans to pull the air up to the bonnet nostril vents. This took many hours to build, as it had to fit into the required gap, with angles and curves, etc. Also, it needed to be able to be disassembled to remove it for belt access, without breaking into the cooling system. Needless to say, it JUST fits, wouldn't like to do another one! But hey, there was a noticeable improvement, the amount of air coming through the nostrils was impressive, even without the fans running. So it was worth it after all the hard work.....hopefully.

You're welcome and thanks, if it helps with anyones mods, then great, there are loads of things that can be done, if you feel the urge! FWIW I had plenty of track fun in a standard MC with slight lowering and some camber adjustment. The brakes were standard, but new and OEM, and performed exceptionally, I hope my carbon jobs work as well, or I will convert to iron rotors, as the AP callipers will allow me to do this.

An interesting bit, for me at least, was early on after receiving the shell, which we named Michelle, (very original), was a missing piece of the puzzle. Yes there were many pieces to try and fab and purchase from Motorsport, but the catalogue is awful with few photos, some errors and omissions. This quandary was what connected the tubing that came down to act as the rear subframe where the inner fulcrum point attaches and also the diff case nose? They wouldn't be left dangling, and anyway there was a threaded and chamfered recess in the bottom of them, so there would be some sort of brace attached for triangulation to other points. I couldn't find a photo of this and Motorsport wondered what I was on about, not for the first time! I persevered with my contact over in Munchen, and eventually the missing item was found, Holy Bat shield!!! Didn't quite expect something that big and heavy, 22kg IIRC. I was told it was for balancing the car, mmmmm, well it is very strong, made of a steel lattice set in carbon fibre. What a mix! This is an intrinsic part of the shell, it adds an enormous amount of strength, and attaches in several places with M10 bolts. It cost an arm and a leg, but it was very necessary. The underside is nice and flat, which joins up to the diffuser, giving some nice air flow, which some of you fellow modders have nicely achieved.
