As others have said, in the Coupe, you cannot see the detector from outside the car if it mounted up high and you really have to be looking for it from the front of the car.

I have mine because I received a ticket, four hours from home, in a rental car, doing ONE (1) mile over. The cop knew I was not trying to speed and he knew I was not going to drive four hours to fight the ticket. I paid the $125 ticket and bought a RD.

Having a RD does not show 'intent', but does help you make sure you do not get pulled over by some candy A$$ who is just trying to boost revenue.......

I am not sure what is in them, but they light up X band. Not all, but the larger ones, yes.

A lot of farm equipment uses radar and GPS so they can run paths/routes/plow within a tighter tolerance iirc

Now that is just cool. Would be tough to get around my home state of Wisconsin without that thing going off all the time...but still cool.

Mounts?

Just got a Redline and this thing is heavy. Ends up pulling down hard on the smaller suction cups it comes with - what type of mounts are folks using? Are the adjustable mirror mounts worth it? Is there a preference or a secure mount for the roadster?

All of the radar detector mounts suck, unless you buy a V1. Just a fact of life, unfortunately.

I bought two of the Escort "super mounts," the one with a single huge suction cup. Both of them failed in less than 6 months, the big suction cup wears out and can't be replaced.

In the coupe you might be able to find some way to hard mount the whole thing to the ceiling, in the roadster your just sol.

I just use the V1 visor clip and I hardwired it in, I never use the visor anyway.
This is in the roadster.
I have made my own mounts for my 321i and my corvette.
Every car has a V1 I hate to drive without it.

Maybe you found a mounting spot I never thought of?
I will have to show you the one that was done in my Z4. I wasn't sure about it the first time around but now it's kind of grown on me. If it was me I probably wouldn't have gone through with it but the convenience is nice.

I'll post pictures of it come here soon.

I've had a V1 for almost 7 years... I've only been driving (legally) for 8. If I had a go pro I would be able to show a number of counts where I've specifically told people to slow down and they've gone ahead and received citations instead of myself. The investment is well worth it even if it doesn't feel that way up front.

Ended up grabbing a mount on ebay that basically is an Escort type windshield mount manufactured with a 3M double sided tape backing. Plan on mounting it semi-perm as close to the mirror and visor as possible. 12 bucks shipped from Vancouver - figured why not.

omg that looks awesome. I'm not sure about the double sided tape, but its a great mount to modify to put other places, with that nice big patch of metal to put fasteners through.

Just ordered one. I'm going to try removing the tape and using the industrial velco that comes with your EZpass. And maybe mounting it to the visor area if that doesnt work.

Thanks for the tip!

I like the Velcro idea. I was planning on seeing where I could best put the mount - I haven't been able to envision anything on or around the visor area as far as fasteners. I'd like somewhere up high near the rear view mirror to blend in and be stealthy. Nice brainstorm!

I do not have any issues with either the small mount or the 'single huge suction cup' mounts. The single cup mount will fail if you attempt to put it up too high, into the black portion of the window. It has to be on pure glass. That being said, I really do like that double sided tape mount..
Are you talking something like this:

Exactly. In the roadster there isn't that much room however between the mirror and visor. The detector doesn't fit between - with the stock double cups, it needs to be mounted towards the side of the mirror right under the visor clamp. That being said, the redline really tugs hard on the cups and I'm always reaching up to press them back on tight.
