Yesterday, the air duct / elbow actually popped off again. Despite the adhesive tape. Before everything was without problems the last 5 trips. I must say that this really bothers me, because you always drive with a certain fear that at any time the car could suddenly run significantly too much false air and therefore too lean. Understand Karbonius da also not quite why they have shaped the so conical on such a smooth surface.

Does anyone else of you also have this problem?

What type of tape are you using, the same as the anti-slip one I mentioned? the tape I used is TESA brand and is good for exterior and wet applications, the glue it has on is very sticky; I cleaned and degreased the surface well before applying. It did not seem it would unstick easily, and the grippy surface really makes the elbow bite onto it. I did some hard pulls and u-turns sliding the car to see if it was working.

But Karb should redesign the opening to have a ridge around the opening or adjust it so the OE gasket fits.

Do you have a link to the anti slip tape you used? As part of the later batch of airboxes ours came with some applied already but I might take this chance to double up.

I’ve been driving with the tape that Karbonius installed from the factory for several months now with no issues at all. If you reach out to them I’m sure they’d be willing to ship you some of the tape they’re now using as standard.

the anti-slip tape has worked fine. 500+km and has not moved a bit. The issue I see with the felt tape is that the glue they sometimes use is not very durable. but either will work based on the feedback here

the electrical tape absolutely did not work

I haven't asked. Before the last one happened, the guy who runs the ****** website (can't remember his username on NAM3) said he would run it as a ****** GB if I was interested. I wasn't sure how that would work out for everyone, so in the end I didn't take up the offer and did it the old fashioned way. He may be interested in getting a new one started?

Edit - looks like this forum won't let me post the name of the website and replaced it with asterisks? If you're on NAM3, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about (Epousfluent or something?).

I produced a new holder for the tubes.

I used a simple L-Plastic profil, heatet up, forming it, make a cutout and fix it with sika silicone to the airbox. Works perfekt and looks like original.

Installed with GruppeM intake! Had trouble fitting the Karbonius airbox onto the throttle bodies, but found that if you attach the bottom nuts first to get the correct orientation, it makes it much easier.

Also, for the crankcase vent hose, I bought the CSL version and it wasn't exactly the same as the stock one. I had to heat up the ends to remove the plug so I could pop in the stock one that has the tube to vent oil vapor.

Sorry - as far as I know there isn't another group buy.

Incidentally, Karbonius sent me some of the felt tape (my airbox came without it since it was one of the first sent out). Hopefully I'll fit it on the weekend.

I re-installed the CSL dipstick for a cleaner look, the issue is that with all the sound generator piping in the way now I have the same issue as most M3 owners do with CSL dipsticks, not been able to access it easily. But my car consumes no oil and I can remove the solenoid vacuum line and electrical connection when needed to check oil.

i also had to plug the hole with a stainless M6 bolt. I like the more stealth look.Name: C1A4560E-FF5E-4490-92CF-0C70CC7A5644.jpg

Strange that it's called a sound generator when it is really a sound release.
I'm sure if BMW had called it a release people wouldn't have scoffed at it so much.

How much clearance do you have with your strut bar? I have probably 4-5mm.

About 10-12mmm. I used to have more but with the new mounts the engine went up a little bit. I can easily slide the index finger in between the two

Hi together,

a few days ago, my elbow slipped off the Karbonius box again, despite the new tape, which Karbonius sent me specially. The problem is that, as expected, the adhesive of the tape also softens with heat. Thus, the tape is now slipped down (although I have previously degreased everything!).

I have then again written to Karbonious and asked for a real solution.

It is now manufactured an attachment, which should finally fix the issue completely.

I hope that also works. Because otherwise the danger for a too lean mixture is present (because of false air).

How can the group here get ahold of Karbonius’ new fix?

The tape I used has held, it is rock solid and has not moved after 1200 kms. The felt tape provided by Karbonius is just not going to cut it.

Hi Guggag,

Do you have any more information about the attachment? Will it go onto the opening of the airbox? I'm definitely keen for a solution more permanent than tape!

The dipstick being in the way was one of the problems I had when trying to fit the standard airbox. Do you think it would fit more easily without it in the way?
