Its at the shop getting water/meth installed, and the boost leak investigated. So far a small leak has been fixed, and the guy thinks he sees another suspicious location. Should be done by friday

I am so intensely tempted by water/meth, and eventually will go there after the standard kit is operating perfectly for a while. Free power, consistency, and motor safety! |

With a proper install, I don't see any big downsides to water/meth install. My shop talked to ESS about it, and they said many cars with this kit run water/meth and that it doesn't need a special tune for it since the computer will adapt. I'm going to ignore the fact that fr8dog lost a lot of power up top with his install because it was very cold when he did it and I don't know if his ECU had time to adjust.
I should have the car back by the weekend with the kit installed, plus running 1-2 more psi with my leak hopefully fixed. Then I'll drive the balls out of it for 300 miles for it to adapt, and hit the dyno. If it'll need tuning, I'll take the appropriate steps

The leak seems fixed. I didn't hit 8psi (10psi on peak recall) every time I ran out 2nd gear, but it was dark and I only tried 3x. I did hit 10.5psi on overrev once, so it definitely hit true 8psi. I just gotta figure out where my shift point is. Redline is supposed to be 8200, but it seems to really pull timing if you go that high. Optimal shift point is probably 8000rpm, BUT now that the leak is fixed, the rpm needle accelerates towards idle much faster than before in the first 2 gears. I also smelled clutch on the dyno last time....
I updated the first post with more info. Meth kit is installed except the nozzle, we're waiting for a custom bung to arrive monday night. Don't want to half ass that part since its very important to get a good seal on the soft aluminum pipe

went out for a good run today when i got home i noticed the i/c was steaming , the air was damp and thick, the inlet side was WARM, outlet coolish.... id like to get someone to build me a custom HUGE frontmount, the ess one is large but i think we could do better, interestly the vt2-550 spec unit is larger than the vt2-500 unit...... meth injection will end your issues, just get a REALLY small nozzle, id set it to come on @ 2psi, an AFR gauge with meth is essential as you want to see how much this is richeing our tune...... would be nice if ess offered us an updated tune like they reguarly do for the m3 kits, i think im going to do some data logs and get them over to ess to see if we can tweak the tune alittle, a mid to high 11 tune all the way through the power band would be lovely... then meth/water would take this down to a low 11, prettty much what the tune does now. if youve had the chance to take this thing out in really cool weather, its a freaking beast.....

That being said, most people who supercharge the E46 330 also find that the clutch held up pretty well. I'm new to the Z4M world, but I suspect the VT2-500 kit is making more torque that the forced induction kits produce on the 330. |

yup they are identical.... my shop had both in stock, so it was really nice to get to examine them side by side, identical materials, layouts and thicknesses, the only difference was the middle spline count was lower on ours.

3rd gear, 3000rpm, press the sport button and let her rip. Thats how it should pull in 3rd. First and second gears are great though. The rpms really swing quickly up top. The tires are showing their weakness.

Could you describe how the sensation of the car pulling evolves through the rev range, say in 2nd to redline? Since my sneaky leak was fixed, I am quite happy with the midrange pull (as you say, 3k+), but feel like the car is not pulling significantly harder after about 5k (this is the natural torque peak, but still). Do you spin the tires in 2nd gear on dry pavement? Where was your leak found? Only one, or multiple? Any details about the equipment used to locate it? |

When I had a turbo car one way I checked for boost leaks was using a rig I made up for the turbo inlet. I bought a PVC schedule 40 pipe cap where the outer diameter was the same as the inner diameter of my hose coupler. I then drilled and tapped the PVC cap for a air line fitting like air tools have.
To test, I dialed my compressor regulator down to 10-15psi hooked the airline up and because the engine was off and everything was quiet you could hear/feel any air leaks. Maybe some others that have experience with troubleshooting can confirm if any harm could come from it since this is on a S/C and a much more expensive engine, but I didn't have any issues with my setup. They may also be other ways that I am not aware of. Hope this helps. |

i did notice after half a day at the track i could no longer spin the tyres by midday, that was either because power was down or the tyres were creating more grip..... im suspecting alittle bit of both. The actual s/c unit get SO hot after a day of beating it was untouchable... i was however pleased to see this s/c unit can take absolutly anything the s54 can throw at it... The biggest issue with a centri blower?? that lack of Tq in the lower rev range.
