No one is angry. Maybe dissapointed, because the info was literally right there. More than those dates on page 1 is not yet known. The specific launch day of production is defined only a few weeks prior by BMW and not at all relevant, because it takes several weeks after that until the cars arrive at the dealers.

Question regarding G26 EOP and possible ICE successor

Hi ynguldyn,

Thank you for keeping this thread as the gold standard for BMW info.

I see that G26 (4GC) EOP is listed as 02/27 and the NA1 (i4 successor) is starting in 07/27. My concern is that while the 3 Series has a confirmed ICE successor (G50), there is no G-series successor listed for the 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Could you please clarify:

Is there any information regarding a G-series (ICE/Hybrid) successor for the 4GC? Or is the 4GC line expected to merge into the NA1 (EV-only) or the G50 (3 Series) after 2027?

With a planned delivery in July 2026, would I be buying the "last of its kind" for the ICE 4GC, or is there a new generation of ICE 4 Series coming that just hasn't been assigned a code yet?

Appreciate any insight you can provide on the future of the internal combustion 4 Series!

I heard that the 4 Gran Coupé series will not be produced in the new generation and that the current generation will be phased out earlier than planned.

@ynguldyn

Are you really sure that G70 LCI (and G60 LCI) will receive Gen6 electric drivetrain tech? 800V? Would lead to intense structural changes (roundcells etc.). I'm not too sure about that and BMW did not confirm so far.

Since BMW intends to extend production of the G70 until almost 2033, it would be fitting for the i7 to get an 800V installation.

i7 will get an earlier successor and will be replaced by an NCAR specific derivate
See:

ND0 i7
In production 07/29-06/37

I agree with you that current 5 and 7 series BEV can’t compete for a longer period but I am still curious which changes will appear

There will be no successor for the 4 series ICE, only EV from now on.

If the G70 is to be extended until October 2032, the next generation of the NDO i7 will be delayed. So rather from 2033 than from 2029.
But I'm still wondering if what will be in the next decade, because Chinese competition is pushing hard on global markets. I think Mercedes and BMW may have big problems.

With G87 production going until 07/29, is the understanding that a manual option will continue to be offered until the end of production?

Do we know when MY27 of the iX is going to launch and if there will be any changes compared to MY26? Thanks!

I have a question about the remaining production years of the M3 G80 and M4 G82. Does anyone know if the RWD manual transmission base G80/G82 will continue to be offered until the end of their production runs (2027 for G80 and 2029 for G82)?

ynguldyn Is there likely a Neue Klasse iX2 missing from the list of new models?

Seems weird they'd do a NCAR iX1, i1, i2, and Countryman but leave the iX2 on FAAR. Unless maybe not enough volume?

whenever I see one, I question why would someone buy an (i)X2 that in my eyes delivers poor design, high pricetag, small battery, bad practicality (see Björn's banana box test), etc, only to maybe at a certain extent differ from the mainstream (i)X1?

I would not be surprised if they discontinue it

So, G70 LCI i7 will stay with 400 V Gen5 and G65 iX5 will get 800 V Gen6?
Both happening in 2026?

Yeah, because the G70 is only an LCI and the iX5 is a new car. Therefore they can go for 800V Gen6.
The 2027 i5 G60 LCI will also stay on 400V Gen5 for the same reason.

As far as I know the new batteries (those in the new iX3) have completely different height compared to the old ones, so no hope whatsoever that any LCI would get them.

Yes, that's true. But still, G65 ist a CLAR (maybe something like CLAR 3.0) based car. Not a NCAR like NA5 or NA0.

I'm still afraid that you are right and a implementation is too expensive. But who will buy a i5 or i7 in 2027 or 2028 with low charging speed (200 kW, due to 400V) and low battery capacity (especially in the case of i5)? When lower priced cars with better specs are available from BMW?

I don't think the problem is that CLAR cannot support new cells, but that the current CLAR implementation on 5/7 series cannot do it without major overhaul.

I think the i7 will be okayish with the current battery, at least if they manage to improve the efficiency. But otherwise I agree, and actually I don't feel like i5 has ever made much sense.

i5 has a ton of range if you don't routinely need to drive 400+ km without stopping. I only need to charge mine about twice per month while I'm shopping for groceries (no charger at home), and I've comfortably done 1000+ km trips in it, because I don't mind stopping for 10 minutes every 3 hours to grab a coffee.

For range anxious people, I can see how the CLAR platform is not where it needs to be. But in reality, many of us, especially in our part of the world (I see you're also in Europe), just don't drive so far that a 500-600 km WLTP range is a limiting factor, at least not very often.
