Sure just leave a certified check for $8990 and we'll call it even
How much did all the software/hardware set you back?

It's ALIIIIIVVVVEEEEE!!!! MUAHAHAHAA!!
Well, at least the beeping anyway. Was not expecting it to beep until programmed - and I don't think it did at first but went to unlock my car and BAM! it beeped! Unlock, it beeped again! Other nice thing is I remembered about a good local indy that specializes in bmw's - real good guys, and they have the coder and will do it for cheap. 8-)

For any that have completed the install: were you able to get the bumper cover loose and out without removing the tire, or did you have to go through all that hassle? also; any particular tools you would recommend for removing the plastic rivets in the wheel well?

Yeah, wheel has to come off.
You don't have to remove the liner, but the fasteners near the rear (say everything before the 12 o'clock position) needs to come out. There's a few bolts on the bottom that connect with the rear bumper cover. Now you should be able to get to the mounting location and wiring harness hiden up there. Should take about 15-20min to get all apart if you're going slow. Those fasteners with a plastic pin in the middle are pretty robust. I used a small flat heat to work the pin up, then a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull the pin out. The remainder of the fastner just get's pulled straight out. Hope this helps! -V |

I believe the roadster alarm is a bit different and has a tilt sensor.

The roadster has a radar sensor that requires taking apart the rear console in the cabin.

Sorry to revive an old thread but let me get this straight, the alarm you guys all are installing do not have the motion sensor? This is what pops up when I clicked one of the links above:
http://www.bmwpartsunlimited.com/par...&siteid=215368 Has anyone tried adding the motion sensors themselves? Last edited by Aries326; 09-11-2011 at 06:35 AM.. |

You gots to read this whole thread, it's been answered here already...but I'll recap.
Basic alarm is $60 and chirps when arming and disarming. It adds a switch under the hood. You could install this alarm in about 15min. The only tough part is taking off the rear right wheel to get to the mounting point behind the fender liner. The next step adds a tilt sensor for when your car gets towed (not a shock sensor should your car get bumped). Installing this involves removing the storage cubby and rear plastic trim. "Roadster" model alarms add interior motion. Some coupe guys did it to monitor the inside if they should park with the windows rolled down. Installation is about the same as tilt sensor model. In all three "models" if you want the alarm to actually act as an alarm it you have to activate at the dealer or by somebody who has the software. It has lots of cool settings to mess with such as the lights and chirping, but without activating all it does is beep at you. Nobody listens to alarms, so I think the tilt sensor and interior motion is kinda moot. But for chirping and trunk locking the basic one is the way to go. Good luck! |

Chirping just refers to the noise it makes when the alarm has been activated / deactivated. |

This is a great tip guys, thanks very much. I've been lurking and reading the forums, and had to register just to say thanks.
edit to say that I didn't need to take the tire off either. But I discovered my back bumper was already missing most of the bottom self-tapping bolts, so I'll be hunting for replacements of those at the local hardware store. Last edited by zinger; 09-30-2011 at 03:24 PM.. |

Hi, in post #1 in the Instructions for Non-M: it is mention that I have to pull firmly on the oddments box cover, I have tryed this and it does not move, in another tread the installation instruction P/N 01290383087 there is a mention about two Philips screws, on my car I don't see them in the same position like in the instructions.
How hard should I pull on the box cover or is there something else holding it. I don't want to break anything. Thank you |

Are you talking about the ashtray trap door? I didn't bother looking up the part number, on my phone, sorry.
The ashtray is made up of a (bucket) that pulls straight out, and if memory serves the screws are underneath it. Careful not to drop the bucket like I did and crack the corner. I only keep quarters in it for parking meters, so it's no big deal... Hope this helps! |

Hi, I'm not talking about the ashtray, the one that I mean is the cover for the oddments box the one that is in between the two seats or roll bar.
In the instructions to be able to install the tilt or motion sensor one have to begin removing this cover to get further access. Thank you for the reply |

Thanks for this thread, I've installed the siren and hood switch and now my gf's Z4 chirps
Can someone give me a step by step tutorial to activate the alarm through NCS expert? I would assume to load in expertmode, then add VO 302, but I'm not sure what to do after that, not sure which modules to process to, etc. Step by step guide would be super helpful! Thanks! My dealer is charging $195 to activate :\ Just having it chirp is good enough haha but I'd still like to get the functionality down. |

Not a lot of us here are experts with NCS Expert. Sounds like you may be more expert than most with that particular tool. That said, hopefully someone will chime in. I just didn't want you to get your hopes up too high since it's a program with a steep learning curve.
