The iPhone is fine for sound clips. Place it about 15 ft away. I can't believe no one has done a before/after.

Just got back from tracking it at Circuit of the Americas. OMG, In love with this exhaust. On track it screaaaaaams! And is very civil on the 3 1/2 hour drive down. Still learning the noise to rpm correlation but damn does it sound good. Got many compliments!

Also, the butt dyno, even though I know an exhaust can't free up much of any horsepower, feels like this car is definitely quicker...I'd be skeptical, but I can't deny that the car has woken up! Shorts, here you go!

As a note - I did reuse the OEM hardware for the lower exhaust flange fastener, the ones provided by stromung didn't give enough thread engagement to feel comfortable, but I also have the tips adjusted fairly high - so the flanges are not parallel and the lower bolt holes are much further apart than the upper.

Just picked my mufflers up yesterday! Excited to get them installed.
Steenos, I can't thank you enough for setting up the GB. |

Nooooo! Missed this group buy. That's what I get from being away from the forums for so long!
I am in SoCal now too...could have just picked it up. Any chance there'll be another one? |

Thanks Steenos for the Group Buy
Steenos:
Thanks for hooking me up with this GB. Got mine last Friday 7/5, installed on Saturday 7/6, smiling ever since with the result. Great improvement. Went from a grandmother's quiet ride to sport car in less than 3 hours in my driveway. Half of that time was lugging the tools out of the house and back in. Definately adjust the clamps, vertically. Bolt on top and bottom. Top flanges nearly touching, bottom tight. I have photos to post later. |

After having tightend the hangers and the clamp loosely I then locked the tips in the correct position out back using bucket, brick, towel, wrench and wine bottle cork (left of pipe). Then back under car to complete flange bolt tightening.

Took field measurement of OEM space before removing the stock mufflers. One finger clearance from top of Stock Tip to bottom of valence. Very accurate measurement.

Having driven the car on a few longer trips (just drove from Chicago to St. Louis today), I can say that this exhaust continues to amaze me. No drone, no rasp, mid- to deep tone, not barky, but definitely able to belt out a few Db when needed. On the road at highway speed, I don't really hear it unless I downshift or put some pedal into it.
My apartment has valet parking (no, it isn't actually cool/fancy -- it means you have to wait for them to go get your car, rather than just go get in it and drive away), and every valet has commented on how awesome the car sounds. You can tell they love it, because you can hear them revving *ever so slightly more* than every other car they bring down the ramps. I love hearing it from the outside, too. Oh, and it looks really nice, too! I have a B&B Triflo on my Z3M and I always loved it. Now I'm curious to know what a Stromung would be like on it! Thank you again for the GB. Now I just need to get some headers... Last edited by gearhead1; 07-24-2013 at 11:27 PM.. |
