Quick suggestion, get some Scale pads (Longacre makes some decent ones that are affordable), and a laser level from your local hardware store. You'd be surprise how uneven garage surfaces are, and having a level surface for the scales makes quite a bit of difference when it comes to your corner balance, definitely worth the extra setup time to make sure you start square..

Yup... I have them.
I agree being level is absolutely critical. I actually trust a water level more than I do a laser.

-How did you end up making sure the four scales were level with one another? -What did you use to get the M on the scales? thanks Ian

I'm using my lift to drop the car onto the scales. and...... something I learned from the old pro racer I got them from; I use two sheets of heavy gauge alum plate on top of the scale pads with a bit of grease between the sheets. That way the wheels slide back into place as you lower it. With the lift , it makes it super easy to make adjustments w/o having to roll the car off & on the scales.

inTgr8r, looks like you're developing a nice little performance shop there my friend! I wish I were closer! I'd say between you, Crfine88 and Ship there's almost a complete shop in terms of tools. Not bad for guys who don't do this as their day job. I take it that lift is working out quite well? As I've been doing more and more work myself on our cars I'm finding myself wishing I had one quite often. Ah, another thing to add to the never ending list of things to support my addiction. |

Absolutely loving the lift, I only wish I'd done it years ago.

I suspected as much. Crawling around on your back under the car loses its charm at some point. I'll still do it, but I'm not happy about it, and the older I get the more my shoulders are unhappy about it as well. "Say sonny, can you crawl under there an loosen up that there bolt for me?"
Which makes basic mechanical repair and maintenance a picnic in comparison I'll bet and explains your knowledge of tools, fastening methods, and so on. |
