Good read on Chris Bangle....
http://www.wired.com/autopia/2009/02/chris-bangle-le/
In one of the responses...."The Z4 however was the most atrocious, although still better than the horribly dated roller skate Z3." It boggles my mind that some people thing the Z4 design is "atrocious". I bet they drive a Pontiac Aztec! |

nice find. It is interesting to read some of the comments below the article. It's really amazing how many "out there" comments come at the end of some of these type of articles. Seems that some folks have nothing better to do then see if they can out do the person that posted a comment before them.
I'm quite happy with my Bangled Z4.

that article is over a year and a half old... btw watch this video of him on TED.
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/c...s_are_art.html 10 years on... you have to say some of his designs worked and some of them didn't. You have to judge each design personally and individually while looking at each both in pictures and real life.

I find myself completely at a loss at the hatred that some people feel towards Chris Bangle's Z4. I can look at a Porsche 911 or Boxster and appreciate its lines. Or, I can turn to a Z3 or Z4 and appreciate the style of those as well. I think the Z4 is much more aggressive looking than a Z3, but not overly so. It looks like what it is - a car meant to be driven with spirit.
And based on the way some folks just stare at a Z4 when it drives by, it seems to me that there are many folks who absolutely love the car. When we first got the car, one guy was so entranced by it as my wife drove by that he rear-ended the car in front of him while staring at the Z. And the Z4 / M Coupe? Well that is an absolute classic. While many modern day BMWs are designed by other than Bangle, I think to a large extent they just blend into the sea of bland sedans plowing along our streets. They don't look much different from anything else out there. But the Z4 stands out, and in my opinion, stands well above the others. Its a great looking car. And man, has it got guts! Cheers!

I hadno idea Chris Bangle was so hated! I guess I'd only ever heard the good things about him after he designed the Z4 Coupe.
OT: GINA is simply GORGEOUS. The lines taht are created by the cloth, the lights look angry...it looks like a Z8 just ate a Carrera and is still hungry!

more so than not, it was probably Anders Warming sketch that was the inspirational sketch that was picked for the design direction then a team of designers use that to work from under the watchfull eye of Bangle having him direct the final design.
since im in the industry and a designer myself this is the way things sometimes are. its never just one person, it's a whole team of people. but when all said and done the big fish does get most of the credit. as they are the ones that follow the car through the whole process from completion of interior and exteirior here they all are working on the GINA here is a site that shows the whole model making procewss of the GINA, its cool to see the process and all the work that goes into building a one off! http://www.carbodydesign.com/gallery...odel-design/1/ Last edited by -c-; 10-17-2010 at 06:51 PM.. |

Design is in the "eye of the beholder." I believe there are no roadsters which have the cache' of the Z4. I drive this car today . . . knowing that in years to come, it will be a collectable . . . a statement of the past . . . as well as as statement of the future . . . Enjoy your ride . . . today . . . let the future take care of itself. Dutch
