I would agree that Germany has a comparative advantage when it comes to machine building. The thrill of cheap labour is enticing though. |

It's not just about reduced cost, it's time to market. Having a plant in North America means we can get our vehicles much faster from the time they're ordered. There will be growing pains with any new plant, but this is good for our supply.

I don't blame them for it but it is just about reduced costs. The billion plus spent is considered an investment which will earn them much more than the amount spent.

The snobbery with final assembly is real in this thread. My old E90 328i assembled in South Africa was reliable and never had quality issues. That being said, I do think BMW should continue to offer European delivery as an experience if a customer wants to do that for a model that's assembled in the EU. |

You are correct, it is all about design & quality of the parts. I believe being worried about were they are assembled is called bigotry and discrimination.

I wasn't cheering I was merely stating fact. An inevitable fact: companies will always chose profit over national interests.

I hope you realize, majority of BMW buyers don't have a clue where their car is assembled right? Only the informed who pay attention to stuff like this and follow BMW News would know.
