Historical condition of small oil leak at head / block area....
During today's scheduled oil change using Castrol the OEM spec 10w/60w, it was noted that a very small oil leak was occurring at the head / block area. There is no compression leak - no other issues, and the leak is VERY small. My beloved Z4M Red Roadster has just over 65K miles....has anyone else experienced this?? The repair requires head gasket replacement - I was advised to monitor and assess, and not replace the head gasket at this time....your thoughts.

You sure it's coming from there?
I thought that years ago and it was just my CPV. Any chocolate milk on the bottom of your oil fill cap?

My tech stated that this is a common S54 oil leak due to the head drains it's oil at the outside are of the head, promoting this very small leak condition??

They make one out of Viton. You can probably find it googling, but if not, I'll try to find the link for ya.

If its at the front of the engine, ac-compressor-area and along the sump it can be the vanos steel gasket or the timing chain tensioner gasket.

One final add. When I replaced the o-Ring with the Viton one I also changed the CPV. It's cheap and since it's a slotted screwdriver head (??) I figured newer would be better.

I discovered a leak last fall, at first I was worried it was from the head gasket but upon closer look I believe it's the VANOS gasket. So this summer I'm doing a VANOS overhaul which will include a gasket replacement.
