Custom Brembo 4-Piston BBK for Z4M and E46 M3
There is a groupbuy going on over at M3Forum on a 4 piston Brembo brake kit for the E46 M3. The kit is 4 piston monoblock and E9x M3 rotors (360mm rotors?).
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...594414&page=55 I have been following the thread. Since Z4M and M3 ZCP share the same front brakes, I think the kit will work on our E85 /86 M. The kit will be around $1k. Great price if it works. I'm absolutely no expert in brake specs. Would like to hear your thoughts on this. Last edited by MPowerZ32; 02-21-2018 at 09:19 AM.. |

Before pulling the trigger, I'd try to get your hands on a rotor and with a caliper measure the height of the outside of the mounting hat that would mount to the wheel hub to the brake material surface...
Issue with the Z4m is that it has very shallow hats whereas the E90 M cars have deeper hats so if it's much deeper...the rotor will hit the dust shield at best or at worst hit the tie rod that sits just outside the dust shield before it sits flush on the hub because of the deeper hats. I came across this all while trying to adapt a set of F80 calipers/rotors to my Z4M...it does not work for this exact reason so double check to see if the E90 will mount without touching the dust shield/tie rod Cheers. What may work is the calipers on the stock rotors...with a proper caliper adapter...it's those damn rotor hats that this car was designed with that pretty much does not allow a BMW brake swap from other cars...why pretty much one has to go BREMBO or StopTech BBK... |

I am trying to contact the guy that makes them in Bulgaria. Will let you know. May be we can make something for our cars as well. I know I want to change the floating brakes on mine.
Dust shield is not an issue. Even with some of the other BBKs you will need to cut it. Does anyone else have any more info on the fitment? |

Being told all this saved me allot of time and effort and hence why I just order the front/rear StopTech Kit... http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...2#post21978342 |

So what are our budget options? Porsche 996/Boxter S/ Cayman S front and rear Brembo calipers BMW 135i front Brembo calipers. Although I've heard brake pads need to be machined down 1mm each side. |

I've never heard of doing the 135i calipers but from what I hear...probably not a good idea as the pistons are prone to cracking if they are pushed say at a track... It could be possible to try the F80 or the F30 calipers with the stock disks...(I've never tried this)...see if it lines up/if not...what type of bracket would be needed to make it happen... To be honest...I just bit the bullet and bought a Stoptech front and rear kit...sitting in a box...going on once the car comes out late April after winter hibernation... |

The brembo caliper from the Porsche needs to be machined down 5mm. That same place you provided does that for $95.
All set then. Now I need to get me a set |

Basically it's a big brake kit or the Porsche 996 conversion...those are our choices with the Z4M |

This works on non-M cars like 3.0si but doing it on the M would be pointless, the stock brakes on the M are better, they just don't look as nice. The 135i pistons on these Brembos do Crack under extreme heat but unless you track your car you'd be fine.

My daily...a BMW 128i...i just finished the install of the 4 piston F30 calipers on 340mm X 30mm F30 rotors...the 128i brakes are just fine...but damn does it look so much better with those blue F30 brakes...best part is it's direct bolt on so if a 135i front set up is direct bolt on as well as the F30 setup I run...so on the 3.0si Z4...if the 135i setup works/is direct bolt on then....the F30 setup should/could work too...more options for 3.0i/Si owners... It's pretty common to use Porsche Boxster S calipers along with M3E46 or CSL/Z4M rotors, but they are pretty similar to 996 calipers I guess.
I will be using that concept on my Z3 race car. Porsche Boxster S calipers all around (Millway adapters up front and custom adapters in the rear) with CSL rotors up front and Z4 3.0 rotors in the rear. |

Sorry to bring this thread back to life but does anyone know if these work on our cars with the stock rotors/discs and 19' BBS CH wheels?
Thanks

I don’t know how anyone can answer that without knowing what model calipers those are. The only Brembos that bolt onto stock rotors are the 996 and DB9, both of which will require new brackets.

And I agree the 996 kit is great bang for buck and probably the route I’ll be going. For the rears I take it you run a Boxster non-S front pad? If so did you have to grind down the pad or does it fit at full ‘thickness’? |
