Just picked it up today with the new shoes and... WOW! what a difference and these aren't even broken in yet. MUCH quieter and less jarring over bumps and the steering is much more responsive with more feedback and these are Ultra High Performance. I'm pretty amazed.

Run flats aren't actually bad tires, it just there are non-runflats that are much, much better tires.

Yes, it's probably the main handling/feel difference between All Season and Summer tires that I'm really noticing, but the other huge bonus is the much quieter and less jarring ride. I cringed every time I went over a bump in the road before, what a difference!
I don't even mind that I lost several thousand miles of wear left on the front tires. Problem was, the back ones were down to the wear indicators and if I had rotated them back to front I would have been in a dangerous situation for hydroplaning with the lack of tread in the front. Two sets of tires for two cars in two weeks.. my 2001 MX-5 and now the Z4 It's just money, isn't it? |

I chuckle at this talk about how bad runflats are. When I got my zed one of the things I didn't love was the ride harshness; I expected it to be a bit lower than it was, no idea why but I did. Probably just presumption on my part. Plus the tires were not as grippy as I was expecting; it felt as though the back end was breaking loose earlier than I was used to in the STi. I figured "oh the tires must be runflats". Turns out they're not! I guess I was spoiled by the AWD grip levels in the Subie.

I'm "chuckling" at how much better my new replacement non runflats are and there is absolutely no doubt about the huge improvement in ride comfort, handling and less road noise.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I doubt there's a difference. I'm certain there is, and that it is considerable. I was chuckling at myself for thinking that I had them when I didn't! (I kind of bought the car on a whim in case it's not obvious - I mean, what kind of person buys a used car without knowing what kind of tires are on it? But I was smitten.)

Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) problem:
I own a 2007 BMW Z4 Coupe. Five years ago I purchase a set of BBS wheels, with TPMS and Michelin tires. For almost five years there were no problems. The last 6-months the TPMS low pressure goes on and off continuously. I have checked my tire pressure on all my tires many times and they all had 30psi. I recently installed new tires on the front and continued with the same problem. If one of the TPMS sensors was defective, I would think the TPMS light would stay on continuously. I suspect an intermittent problem with the TPMS system in the car. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any advise?
