ESS New intake for SC in Z4M
Just received the parts for a new intake for my V2-500 kit in my 2006 Z4MR.
It may be obvious to the shop how to install, but was hoping for at least a picture on what final is to look like. Can anyone provide? Thanks. |

Not liking the fact you need the JB Weld

whats different?? apart from the hose... Edit : it seems they have shortened the plastic intake and are using a longer silicone piece.
The current setup I'm using looks very very clean ( won't lie was time consuming and the hose was insanely expensive ) and provides abundant fresh air.. This looks like a kit to make install easier, i don't see any performance gain at all tbh? I've made some mods to mine stock setup, used a 3 ply silicone aerospace heat reflective hose, made a alloy bracket to hang the filter right inline with the grill as opposed to it just resting and wobbling around, although cleaning requires bumper off I'm not seeing any performance gains here with this "new setup".... They have also changed the lower intercooler pipe to a folded 1 piece unit which i really wanted but when i found out they wanted basically 300 bucks **including delivery** i decided that was bit of a piss take... heres how mine looks currently.

The main reason I am doing this is ease of future air filter changes.. I do not have the ability/work space to remove front fender to chane out current location.
I am most likely keeping this car for another 5 tears and then giving to my son... and he is no mechanic either. This car has less than 10K miles and is only for weekend drives in the country. Not cheap. Parts with new filter was about $400 . I am not doing the install. Do not have current dyno numbers and don't plan on getting after but was told there should be a small HP gain over current set up. |

but from what i see you'd still have to remove the front bumper for filter servicing....
this setup is going to the same place it seems just with more hose and less plastic intake like mine which makes things more awkward... 400 bucks for those 3 items is a total piss take as well....

I am at my install site now and they also told me they do not see how to change air filter in future without removing bumper.
That plug I am suppose to JB weld in means that the discharge tube from the blow off valve with vent to open....so waiting to see how that will sound. |

Post new air intake ESS VT 500
1. I was told I would not need to take my bumper off to replace or clean the air filter in this new set up.....that was wrong.....filter is in exact same position as before. Guess I will just need to live with that.
2. I could not tell if it provides any addition HP, but, the exhaust note is clearly louder and improved......finally getting the sound I paid to Eisenmann for their race cans.....and this alone was potentially worth it to me. Figure it must deliver more potentially cooler air in the larger hose from the filter to the intake elbow. Not obnoxiously loud and I would still prefer a little more volume....but definitely louder. 3. The 90 degree hose from the bypass valve to the intake elbow connection is gone....hence the need for the new kit plug and JB weld.......now vented to atmosphere with a barely noticeable "whoosh" when shifting....which does not bother me.....but the by-pass bad whistle that was bad is now very bad an annoying. That needs to be replaced with something....anything else |

seems like a whole lot of hassle for zero gains tbh.
why don't you just leave the BPV piping back into the intake then the annoying whistle will get better, if not you need to remove that valve and go for something else, like tial BOV.

I converted my bypass to a blow off valve. I agree the whistle is awful... especially at highway speeds. I need to put together a parts list. I'll be going with Tial, as the QR I bought is excellent quality.
IIRC, the list includes a gasket, Greddy adapter, and Tial Q.

anyone considered the turbosmart dual port valve, can recirc, blow off or do both and is compact... ill change mine when the current one goes faulty, I've learned a lesson way to many times about changing things out that aren't broken, i agree the whistle noise is annoying but i kinda like it now days!! lol!

basically paid 400 bucks for exactly the same setup we all have, infact i think ours with the longer contoured s/c intake looks cleaner, maintenance either way is still a ball-ache.

You guys are bad influences. I'm now $285.59 poorer, and a new Tial Q, Greddy adapter, and gasket are all on the way...

I got an email that my parts have already shipped from Extreme PSI, and are expected to arrive Monday. I had some technical bypass valve questions the last time I bought from them, and I sort of expected a half answer, but they impressed me when they came through with a detailed explanation the same day. It's rare to find someone that truly knows their product in the car mod business. So, if you need BOV parts, check them out!

Does anyone know what the current blow-off valve model # is supplied with the ESS kits? Is is still a Vortech ? On the ESS web page for replacement parts, there is only a picture of what looks identical to the 8D004-010 model that came with my VT-500….no part or model number supplied.
