Wheels are 18' apex arc-8s, 9.5f et 35 10 rear et 25. No spacers, although I have played around with some, seeing how much room have. I have -2.8 degrees of camber all around. I don't rub at full lock or during casual driving. Although Im sure that under load around a small radius valley turn or other aggressive turns I would. The r888s are a very different looking tire. The have unusual square sidewalls, and run a little smaller. Tire size are 255/35 and 275/35. I know I was rubbing at one point and had to stiffen my suspension some to compensate. The suspension is bc br "racing" coilovers. Most likely something I will upgrade if I plan to track the car more. They are a good street coilover, but I doubt that they perform as well as other brands on the track. I love the look of the RPIs, s unique. I can deal with the sound for their amazing look. I like their sound too. On my way to bimmerfest, we were in the Baltimore Tunnel and the rpis sounded so much better then other s54s and one of the best overall imo then anything else, well s85 aside |

If you ever see an interlagos blue ///M roadster with Virginia tags around the Annapolis area or on the Beltway, that's most likely me headed to/from my boat!

Picked up some catless headers and plan on installing them and a few other things this winter.
Things I'm planning on picking up a car cover CDV Vibratechnic street engine mount Uuc black poly trans mounts Header bolts and gaskets Selling My oem wheels Bbs rs2s ( look up my for sale ads if interested) A few other thoughts -I've been talking with Frank smith tuning techs about getting a tune to get maximum potential out of the headers. He claims he can get 300rwhp with my car if I include pulleys, which Im considering Doing for now. Should hold me over power wise for a year Also looking into exhaust valves to be able to control volume Planning on doing a tune up, changing oil, trans fluid, filters, and doing a thorough winter inspection Heading to summit point on November 9th! Lastly, I've been contacted by apex to be used in some upcoming ads. Debating on picking up a set of squared arc-8s and run Hoosiers, but I think my current arc-8s and r888s will do fine for now. Researching superchargers as well. That's a post for another day ha |

Hey, your build is great to watch. If you're looking to supercharge, there are several of us on here with sc's. I had a question about your wheel setup. I'm looking to do 19 x 9's in the front... from what you know of your setup, what would it take to get there?
Thanks! |

And which s/c do you have? I'm leaning towards the Ess over the vf |

I have the VF570. I went with VF because they create the most power and have a solid hardware reputation. Sadly my experience with their software side has been much like another member on here's experience. They are *extremely* slow to respond (by that I mean weeks). And we tried going with several versions of their tune and it just wouldn't work so I paid over $1000 for another tune from Frank Smith. From what I've heard ESS is solid on both the hardware and software sides. If I were you and ended up going VF, I wouldn't purchase the tune, just get the hardware and have Frank Smith tune it. Save yourself the headache, time wasted and money. What makes you lean towards ESS?

Basically becuase of what you just said. I've heard that from numerous people, and I have kinda came to the conclusion that it doesn't seem like vac/vf can get a tune right for us. Ess can though, and all the members I have talked to love their Ess kits. Strangely enough I talked to a friend at ttfs and he said they only tune for their in house kits, which is actually active Autowerks, who doesn't make a z4m kit, but he said he could try and make an exception if I want to go ess, either that or I would be the guinea pig for their custom AA branded kit.
And I think the power difference could be made up with modifying the Ess kit, with meth, catless, pulley upgrades etc. I don't want 700hp, I would be happy with 450rwhp, and would honestly like to fit even more rubber down prior to that. I've been looking into somehow fitting 285/315 r888 f/r, but I don't want to go with a full blown widebody. I wish there was a type of flare I could use that still kept oem look, just wider. Looks like I will have to go custom though |

Yea, it's definitely difficult to get more rubber down back there. Here's the breakdown the way I figured it:
ESS pros: solid tune, solid hardware ESS cons: less power than VF VF pros: solid hardware, more power than ESS VF cons: bad tune, bad customer support That being said... if you are really wanting an SC, I would recommend the following: snag the VF570 from RatedM here on the forums $5000 shipped (bargain price and a regular here on the forums) --> For Sale Here snag the VF570 tune from Frank Smith ~$1200 (solid tune, has worked well for other zposters) For a grand total of $6200 you'd have the most powerful supercharger you can get, solid tune, and solid hardware. Whatever way you go, best of luck to you! |

Hmm, definitely something to consider. But I have heard buying used vf kits means you get literally zero customer service, so I would be on my own when it breaks, which it may be more prone since it used.

That's a seriously good point. My experience and others has been that they will answer questions but it can take an inordinate amount of time. But I've also found that custom work like this is an en-devour taken on with patience in mind. All of this high spec after market stuff will take tweaking to dial in and maintain. Which means having a good local shop that can take a look. So, before getting the sc I would find out if there are any local shops that you can count on when you need to troubleshoot. Also Frank Smith who does the tunes is from MD so you might have some local help right there.
As for the reliability of the VF hardware... it's pretty robust. But when it all comes down to it, it's your money, go where you're most comfortable man! I hope my thoughts are helpful, but they're just my thoughts... Oh, have you thought about the G-Power supercharger? I've heard that it provides more torque than the rest... |

So just to throw down some ideas in writing, if I went with the ess vt2-525, I would consider
-9psi pulleys -aeromotive stealth fuel pump(center inlet) and kit with new regulator -upgraded zionville radiator -colder plugs -larger injectors -meth, have spray only after 4.5k rpm -larger, upgraded intercooler and custom upgraded dual oil cooler -upgraded clutch(lwfw?) and rear end, 3.91 lsd, dss axles -oil catch can -a pillar gauge mount -ebay t-bolt clamps -have multiple maps(e85,93,93+meth,110) but before- insect rod bearings-possibly upgrade dr.vanos inspection Now there is also the option of going custom and trying to modify a 550 or 575 version for our cars. I want to stay under 10 psi and keep engine internals stock otherwise I would build the mythical vt3 with a built block and run e85, which is far more then I would ever need. I think anything over 500rwhp in these cars would be pointless. I want to USE the car, not just show it off, and that much power without the rubber or weight to support it will not be useable, and cause damage to the drivetrain. I want to have a car that isn't always broken, needing parts constantly. I would love a reliable kit that makes great power and is 100% functional. Now granted, most of the upgrades listed will get me more power then I need, but they improve areas of weakness in the process, potentially allowing to run less boost, at the downside of high cost for everything. I don't know, just laying out thoughts Last edited by Calichase; 10-11-2014 at 12:41 PM.. |

Yea, those are sweet adds for sure. I think the best bang for your buck is definitely the 3.91 gearing. All of the things that happen after the ignition are awesome adds because you don't have to change the tune. After you start doing things like meth and larger injectors, etc... things that change the mix coming into the engine... you're gonna have to go custom tune. So, now you're in the same boat as the VF. Between the two tunes you're looking at a 570 vs 525 at the crank, but only getting 80% of each to the wheels, which equals 456 vs 420... so yea.. about 36hp difference. If you're doing the gear change that's a multiplier of your power to the wheels, so that'll bump you up from that number.
I think you'll be super happy either way you go. |
