Wrong oil?
So, I just noticed on the receipt that my Indy put in 5w-40 oil instead of 5w-30. Should I have them change the oil again or is this ok to use?

You'll be fine as long as it is an LL-01 rated BMW spec synthetic oil. I always ran European formula German Castrol 0w-30 in my 330 ZHP. That being said I always brought my own oil to my mechanic because I preferred it over the 2 or 3 oils he had that still met the specs...

I believe that both 5W-30 and 5W-40 are recommended viscosities for the 3.0 si based on information provided in the owners manual. I changed mine recently and switched to Castrol Edge 5W-40 (BMW LL-01 rating) in the hopes that the slightly higher viscosity when warm might minimize resulting HVA noise - which I occasionally get from time to time when I haven't driven my coupe for awhile. Too early to tell if it's going to make any difference.
