Vibration - 3100-3500 RPM

This isn't something I'm too concerned about, but have been noticing recently since putting the first 1,000 miles on my new M Coupe. There's a noticeable and consistent vibration (sound) from 3,100 to 3,500 RPM in all 6 gears. I usually dont notice this in first as I'm shifting quickly through the gear. It sounds like a corser or more rough vibration than usual engine sound and goes away if i'm not in that specific 'bandwidth' . It makes the sound whether or not I'm on the gas, and if i'm flooring it through a gear I still pick up on the vibration as I travel through those RPMs

Has anyone noticed anything similar in their z4??? my cousin has something similar in his e30 m3, but it's not nearly as consistent as this appears to be

This sounds like the normal vanos noise. If you search on Bimmerfest.com for "engine noise" and "3000 rpm" - you should find lots of posts on the subject. It is the engine modifying the valve gear hydraulically - kicks in between 3k and 4k. BMW says it is normal.

And yes - mine does it too ;-)

yeah i figured it wasn't 'abnormal,' but had no idea what it was. From bimmerfest it seems that it's the vanos in this case. Tho someone did mention something interesting about the chain tensioner, and people seem to talk about a "ticking" vanos in the e90s...
oh and thanks for the corroboration!
