10k miles later and I can shift mine like a pro. Still has the CDV too. Just gotta learn it. Sometimes it's so slick that I never even feel the gears - the stick just slides into each gate like butter. I am running RP Synchromax in the tranny but I don't think it made much difference. The difference is learning how to use the clutch and gear shifter the way it was intended to be used. I've figured out the harder and faster you push the clutch in, the better the shifts are. Don't pussy-foot it - pound that clutch into the floor and shift it like you mean it. It takes more effort but it's so rewarding. I think the tranny on this car is awesome. No complaints at all.

Also you should look into a short shifter, ZHP knob, and the RE trans mount. Im going to do all of the above they make a significant difference. It made a huge difference on my friends ZHP which has the same transmission

I'd do the knob and the trans mounts first, and see how it feels. World of difference for my car. Might save you some money on the SS kit

Made a difference in up shifts for me for sure... Downshifts under hard braking 3rd to 2nd are still problematic from time to time... With and without rev matching...

The problem I believe is a combination of poor Synchros and twisting or movement of the drivetrain under load. I've done all I can do but wait until it fails...

I will admit I've had the 2nd gear grind more than a few times but fortunately I know I am not the only one. It seems like it's happened more often when I am in a turn changing from 1st to 2nd too quickly. I've read a lot of posts about the issue and the solution is really simple - quit shifting so fast. I try to delay myself ever so slightly before yanking the stick down into 2nd. I've never had it grind when I do it this way.

braking/shifting in a straight line? I do 3 to 2 numerous times daily, match revs, can't say they're problematic.... I'm just as pleased with the mounts going up as I am going down (no homo )

not to be too self-promotive, but I was especially careful in a video I just took of my car, maybe you can "hear" the technique FWIW not calling you out in particular, just putting it out there... Last edited by BTM; 09-21-2011 at 10:43 PM.. |

That video wasn't showing that downshift...I said I wasn't calling anyone out, just offering my take on the rough shift we all seem to have encountered before. Drive your car how you will, no offense meant.

BTW I did the clutch stop two days ago and it makes a big difference as far as smoother shifting IMO not such a looooong clutch throw. Doing the RE trans mounts soon

More cabin noise - however I don't drive this thing but for fun. I added the RP fluid at the same time so hard to say what made the largest difference; better than OE however...(in my car)

I actually daily drive mine. Is it alot of cabin noise? I changed my fluid to Pennzoil Synchromesh about 10k miles ago and it made a difference but I have been thinking about switching to RP.
