I assume a 10mm spacer would fix the rears and the half-inch in the front would be negligible/based on tire choice. Help - need offset advice!
TIA everyone.
I understand the OE wheels and tires are the following sizes: F 18 x 8 ET42 225/45/18 R 18 x 9 ET30 255/40/18 So this is what's confusing me. 1) I'm currently running 10mm spacers with the OE wheels and tires. The look is perfect...I DO NOT want to extend the outer surface (street side) of the tire any more to the outside no matter what width of tire I use. I want to keep using the 10mm spacers so I can mount the OE 18's for longer trips 2) I know a number of you run a 245/275 combo with no issues but I want to use a 235/40/19 and 265/35/19 setup in Michelin PSS. (So, slightly taller than OE which actually is what I want, and slightly wider). 3) I'll be ordering wheels in 19x8.5" and 19x9.5" but the company wants me to specify the desired offset. 4) Assuming that the extra 10mm tire width and 12mm wheel width would be all to the inside, what should I specify as the offset? Am I correct in taking 10/2 adding it to 12/2 = 11 and therefore adding 10 or 11mm to the OE ET's of 42 and 30 to get the look I want? |

Hi guys, i tried reading back to see if this has been asked before but didn't notice it and to be honest i got lost in all the various numbers and figures..
My question is this, which wheel spec should i choose in order to have identical wheels and tires all around? I'm thinking 18x9 all around with minimum of 255 wide semi-slick tires (think R888 or similar) But i've no clue about offsets! I don't mind using spacers if needed anywhere and as they'd be my track wheels i don't care if they look flush or not. I also don't care if the tires are a lower profile than stock. I figure having 4 of the same wheel/tires is easier to swap axles and/or sides so they'd last longer. At the moment i'm on stock suspension although with the pins pulled out so around -1.5 camber up front but eventually i'll go with a suspension kit and camber plates so more negative camber will be added if/when required. If my reasoning is not sound or if it's even not physically possible please say so! I'm NOT claiming to be an expert here.

IF you want to use 18x9 wheels do you want the same offset or space between the fender and wheel as on your stock wheels?
If you do that you can have the 18x9 ET 30 on the rear and 18x9 ET 40 on the front and all you do is add about 1/2 an inch on the inside and outside in the front so their should be lots of clearance, You probably can move them out a little more if you wish but depending on where you get your wheels they can help you. In terms of Tires 255 or 265x35 - 18" tires You can put any tires you want and the calculation for wheels is related to the width of the wheel. Where they fit in relation to the struts and the fenders is the offset and there are MANY MANY combinations depending on the make of wheel

Thank you for your reply drbvac. Is there not an option for using the exact same wheel all around? Instead of different offsets front and back? Say for example 18x9 30 offset on all corners?

18x9 et 30 will be very aggressive for track use without some added camber. Also, remember you have a bbk, so not all wheels will clear. I would strongly recommend apex wheels for track use. 18x9.5 et 35 seems to be a common square setup with aggressive camber

Yes, mostly clearance issues were related to KW setups because the spring perch height is relocated.

Got me confused now boys - Do you not have 9" with ET 25 with your spacer? The spacer reduces the offset - doesn't change the width of the wheel ?

so the new ze40's from volk looks perfect to me;
here are the specs for bmw only; 18x8.5 et 50 face 1 18x8.5 et 30 face 1 18x9.5 et 50 face 2 18x9.5 et 40 face 2 18x9.5 et 20 face 3 18x10.5 et 20 face 3 my question is would 18 x 9.5 et 40 be too aggressive for the fronts? and then the 10.5 et 20 rear? on stock suspension. |

Added 10mm spacers in front

2 Front - 19x8.5 ET40 245x40 - 19" Member suggested I do this to get the same appearance from the fenders Bumped them out 10mm and they look better I think but does anyone have any idea if it changes the feel of the tires on the road or the alignment? Nervous to put them on - not hard to get off

Will the following fit with no rubbing on stock suspension, no fender rolling, etc. Will be used for autocross.
