Regular to auto dimming mirror conversion
Hi,
I read the other posts on converting the standard mirror to autodimming. The posts were for coupe cars where the wires were tucked around the roof area. The wires for convertibles are not present. I was wondering how to do it with a convertible z4. Also how do I know if my keyless entry remote radio sensor is in the mirror. If it is in the mirror is it still possible to do the conversion? Thanks! |

The wire loom should be tucked in behind the center dome/maplight fixture. If you pop out the light fixture you'll see a wiring harness for the light fixture and a second one probably taped up that you can lead down to the mirror. I have auto dimming so it is already plugged in, but I'm guessing it should be hidden there.

do u need a retrofit or just plug em in?
i already have plugs for the alarm seems lke there's empty spots where the dimming mirror can plug into I like to be optimistic because every option on a BMW(exception to some) can be plugged in without taking apart the entire car lol aka cruise, multi function comp, power seats to name some

It should be plug in, do you have the mirror on hand to plug in, that'd probably be the easiest way. BMW does pre-wire most all accessories on our cars so it should be pretty straightforward to retrofit, auto-dimming side mirrors would be more complicated of course.
