Plastic would not have the harmonics that CF does so would defeat the object of having this product.
I would agree although 'plastic' is a broad term. If you used a 'plastic' such as nylon-6 with a glass fiber content of 30-40% I believe you will get the harmonics pretty damn close and the cost would be significantly cheaper. Straight up injection molding.

A lot of dtm air boxes are fiber glass, cheaper, and sound just slightly different than carbon.

You can try reaching out to Evolve, (PM OP).

I reached out to them back in late jan and was told that the time frame was in March - April which has come and gone.

Last I heard/recall they were looking to source a Z4M to do development work in (this was 2 - 3 mos ago).

Haha! I was also considering this option lately, going back to NA with the CSL airbox, Alpha-N and cams!!!

Usually they correspond quicker via email due to the volume of the current and potential clients that reach out to them.

I can try giving them a buzz this week to see what they say.

I would go with Schrick 296/288.

The only thing that bug me a bit is that it would cost me more than what I can have for my ESS VT445 and would produce maybe less power...

I did not know that Schrick currently offered a 296/288. I thought the next step up from the 288/280 was the 304/296. You should flip through the BMW Motorsports catalogs and get the Evo cams

It really does add up very quickly. The amount I spent on the Evolve CF Airbox, Evolve AlphaN, and Schrick 288/280 cams is right around the price of a brand new VT1-445. That not even including labor and dyno time.

Many years ago, I almost got the VT1-445. After driving one on the street, I realized that I am just a Naturally Aspirated nut. I personally didn't want to deal with extra mechanical parts and with my NA setup, I actually lost front end weight.

My good friend just installed a CSL Airbox, SS V1 Stepped Headers, Schrick 280/272, and has a slight revision of his tune from Evolve Automotive. He put down ~15whp more than what my stock E90 M3 did on the same dyno on the same day. It's not even the peak power, but the overall area under the curve that impresses me the most compared to my stock E90 M3. We had limited time with Sal and the dyno, so we're hoping he can pull out a few more ponies next time around. At any rate, his E46 M3 is the most ballistic and responsive I have ever ridden in. Mid-range is out of this world...

The weight reduction going NA is my first motivation.

Exact you are right, just noticed Schrick don't make 296/288... Maybe someone else is doing 296/288 and got confused...

More info on the BMW Motorsport EVO cams?? Never heard of this.

So what are the number (hp & tq) on the E46 M3 with Evolve CSL airbox and Tune VS ESS VT445?

E46 M3 with CSL/Euro Headers, Euro Cats, Evolve CF Airbox, and Evolve AlphaN put down 327whp 260wtq SAE on a DynoJet. (NO AFTERMARKET CAMS)

I have seen one independent dyno of a VT1-445 put down 370whp and 264wtq SAE on a DynoJet. What I am most curious about is how consistent is that kind of power when the VT1-445 doesn't have a FMIC and driven on the track hard for 20-30min sessions.

I'll PM you the info about the Evo cams to keep the thread on topic.
