GB: AutoSolutions SSK #2
Hey guys & gals. A buddy of mine wanted an AS SSK, and after talking with Ronald @ AutoSolutions, we have to get together a small group of people in order to keep costs down on both the production and consumer side.
AutoSolutions will be closed during the month of August for renovations and will resume business in September, so this is an early interest thread so that we all know how many kits to run in their next production batch. Please see here for the previous successful GB I was in charge of and helped run: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthre...osolutions+ssk Me, and a host of other people have these installed on our Z4Ms and love them. The AS SSK will stiffen up the shifting characteristic as well as provide clean crisp entry feedback upon shifting into each gate. Transmission mounts combined with this SSK have been proven to reduce or even eliminate 2nd gear grind altogether. I personally don't have any grinding in my car whatsoever. I've also been to the track over 15 times with my AS SSK. Nothing but smiles! What: AutoSolutions SSK ~15% throw reduction; 13mm lower than stock Price: $350 shipped Who: Unlimited When: Production starts beginning of September How: Place your name on the list, and pay later Group Install (~$180 USD) @ Performance Technic in Pleasanton, CA. - Saturday xx/xx/2012: 1. Ron 2. Krissi 3. 4. 5. . . . as of 10/9/12 Last edited by mfanatic325; 10-09-2012 at 06:39 PM.. |

Same as the previous GB, please DO NOT put your name down unless you're 100% sure you will be paying for it when time comes. We don't want any flakers, as it's unfair for everyone else that has to eat your costs of production.

Lon thanks so much for putting this together After trying out the AS SSK in RobMCoupe's car I knew I needed to have one. It really fits the character of the car.
Would it be possible to get chamfered bushings as per this thread? I guess we can chamfer them ourselves with a pocket knife haha.

so nice that you even had to post twice eh? jk
I will also ask about the threaded option, assuming for shift knobs? Any specific requests in terms of thread specs? Also, if memory serves me correctly, payments were collected bu Ron @ AutoSolutions prior to production run. So for those already on the list, please have payment set aside ready to go when time comes. This will ensure a smoother process from start to finish. |

In the last GB Ron added this comment.... "That's not a problem but I cannot guarantee against breakage at or above the threaded area. the standard shaft is approx 15mm in diameter. For a shift knob to safely work you would need the threads to be used strictly for retaining the knob and not to be subject to shear. I.e you would need the knob to apply force to the 15mm shaft and not to the threads. Thus the knob in question must be checked for dimensions that would allow the force to be applied to the 15mm shaft. please remember that the outer lever is 6061 t6 aluminium and not steel. Hope that explains my position in this regard. "

For anyone considering this ssk I highly recommend using the stock knob or something even taller! A short knob like the ZHP will make the throws way too notchy. I have the Jaffster (review here) and while not pretty, the increased torque from the added length/height makes shifts so easy, especially great for the track.

when is this GB going to close?
Is this SSK more for track purposes than daily driving? Price differences from other vendors is almost 1.5-2x more.

It's not just a SSK like the others. The custom made bushings is what makes a world of difference. You can find lots of reviews on some of the E46 M3 forums, they've been using these for a long time now. They are absolutely worth every penny that they cost. With out the GB they are closer to $700 to get Ron to make one as it's a lot of custom work.

Hey Ian, Since we are both running taller shifters, would it be possible to get profile shot of your shifter in 3rd gear. I am curious about the dash clearance Thanks
