Is it possible to fit the S65 V8 in the E85 Z4?
A question for all experts, amateurs, knowledgeable enthusiast and specialists. As stated in the title, is it possible to fit the S65 V8 in the E85 Z4?
Also, how much would a feat like this cost along with the time it would require? In all honesty, at present it's a thought with a lot of desire behind it and I would really appreciate a few pointers as to it's possibility and the places that are capable of carrying out the task (in the UK). Thank you all in advance for your time and patience as I am sure you all get a lot of "engine swap" questions and quite frankly must be bored stiff of them. (I have asked this question in the E60 5 series forum as well as I am undecided on whether to go for the 2 or 5 seater car. Practicality Vs Driving Purity) |

The S85 V10 has been done before on the same chassis so it's a definite yes.
Ballpark of maybe $30k USD for parts and labor I'd say is a safe bet. |

Both the S65 and the S85 have been fitted into the E85/86.

Thanks for the input guys. I saw an E46 cabriolet (not an M3) on you tube and wondered how he got it all to work.
Just thinking about it, the S65 is 202kg almost the same weight as the N54 which puts out 100bhp less. Perfect for power and doesn't compromise handling and balance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXng-swx14M&feature=youtube_gdata_player $30,000? Including all other upgrades (rev counter, speedometer, brakes, suspension, strut braces, clutch, etc) , or just engine, ECU and gearbox fitting and calibration? Here's one that has been done, no info on it though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lon8qtyNSTQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player |

Sorry..
For me a better option would be a V8 1M Coupe - it's been done in Egypt started with a 118D shell and pretty much changed everything on the car. see vid below Apparently this can also be done using the DCT box. In terms of cost, i'm not sure, but would hazard a guess and say £7-£10k for parts. labour could be anything if you're getting someone to do most of the work... |

I think the guy in egypt said he did it because of their tax or registration prices make everything extremely expensive so to buy the base model and do the conversion and swap was significantly cheaper.

The guys at Rogue Engineering transplanted the e39 m5 motor in their z4 roadster before the M was ever an option. And yes, the s65 has also been done as well.

I started in 2010 building the swap V8 s65 in to the body BMW Z4 M. I have little chance to finish this project at the end of 2012.It is huge challenge for everyone ,especially from car mechanics I'm interested in your progress in this topic(of course if you are decided to do it).
