Help on wheels, CSL or V715
Well as the title suggests, I am deciding between the 19" VM CSL Reps or the VM V715 which are brand new.
I am worried that the V715 will be too heavy of a wheel, I don't want to lose any performance. I am planning on going with the Goodyear Eagle F1 235/30/19 front and 275/30/19 rear, it is for a 06 3.0i Opinons on the photoshops or the wheels/tires are greatly appreciated. |

If you're worried about heavy wheels, you won't want to get the VM CSL reps as the 19" are about 30lbs despite the manufacturer's claim that they weigh 26lbs. I had them and weighed them using my digital scale and also UPS' scale. Many members on M3forum.net weighed them and got the same results, around 30lbs. I've had 6~7 sets of aftermarket wheels on my Z4M & '04 Z4 3.0i, and can honestly say the VM CSL reps were the WORST wheels I've gotten because of how heavy they were. I ended up taking a big loss and got rid of them after less than 2 months. Acceleration was hurt slightly but trust me that's not the worst part. Handling & braking performances were greatly sacrificed. The car felt heavy and turn-in felt very unresponsive.
If performance is a concern for you, I'd recommend waiting for the forged CSL replicas which are said to be 20lbs IF (and that's a big IF) the manufacturer's claim turns out to be true.

For the tires, I'd recommend 235/35/19 & 265/30/19. You will see no benefit from going with the 275/30/19, which will only induce more understeer than stock and are more expensive than the 265/30/19. Gas mileage will be slightly worse but probably neglectible. Unless you get 245/35/19, it's really pointless to get the 275/30/19 except they look nicer to the car behind you.

One other thing is, do you care if your rims look big or smaller than the actual size? The 19" V715 in person will look like 18" rims. That's the case for all rims with deep dish lips. It's a visual trick. Just look at how small my 19" BBS RGR's look compared to MakoBimmer's 19" M6 reps.

I think you should the RGRs like GP20. Those are hot
As far as tires go, in addition to worrying about understeer with the tire width...keep in mind ride height as well. Cuz with 275/30 tire your tire is going to be thicker than a 265/30 tire. I'd recommend trying to keep your ride hight as close to stock as possible so you don't have to worry guage readings rubbing and other issues that come with change your tire diameter

If performance were an issue with wheel mass, I'd say completely avoid the replica wheels and look for forged wheels.
If absolute performance is your goal and money is no object, I suggest giving Rennworx a call and asking about their Dymag wheels. |

Went with the 18" CSL in Hyper Black to save weight, and also IMHO 18" looks perfect on the Z4.
