GP20 - Thanks for the detailed write up...
Mine isn't bad so far, but I'm sure I'll be referring to your notes at some point.

Mine doesn't rattle as far as I know. Of course my CD player is always blasting.

I'm pretty happy. Mine was built in 02, so they didn't have much practice at that point. All I ever get is the squeak from the top latch, and that is almost never.

the only rattle I've got, I installed myself - that windblocker from Roadster Solutions; the plexi-glass rattles over rough terrain.

There you have it. Sometimes you can get the wrong impression from reading the threads....a person that doesn't have a Z and is looking for one might conclude that the quality of this car is not so good. My experience has been that the build quality is very high, there are no rattles (that I can hear anyway, with or without the stereo blasting) and I am very happy after 5300 miles over 15 months.

Dude, at $50K and less than 6,000 miles you BETTER be happy. Did I mention that the rear wheel squeaks every time I get out of the car? Ahhh, the sound of build quality...

LOL, over on the old Z4um they had threads as long as your Z4 about the rattles and wheel squeaks. Now we know what really happened; BMW secretly killed off the site...

Mine squeaks too. I read somewhere that it was the sound of the parking brake.

I tend to subscribe to the theory of "different build quality depending on the day of the week." Friday and Monday vehicles being the worst, and the middle of the week being the best. I think I got a thursday car (good, but not perfect)

How interesting, i thought it was only me... my 06 M Roadster has had a popping noise from behind the dash since 500 miles. Its not the strut braces under the hood, but more internal. Has anyone dealt with this? Its a pop that comes anytime the chassis is under flex, going over speedbumps, pot holes, under acceleration and deceleration....I am so frustrated with it...

When i found out how many pops and rattles this car had from the factory i about had a heart attack. Not one of the dealers i've brought it to have taken the time to find the noise. Honestly, BMW should be embarrassed. my 17 year old M3 has less prominent noises!! Thank god it's a lease...

Thanks all for any help.

I really miss Z4um... they had tons of info about the pops and squeaks.
They should probably start a problem page on this site, it really helped a lot of owners.

I can tell you this; the interior popping noises on mine disappear as the weather warms up... it's summer hear now and they are all gone after the car sits in the sun for an hour!
