Awww...you can't put a price on ride quality...
Did you check out tirerack.com? I know you're in britland and all, but they do a lot of good comparisons and I'm sure you can figure out the exchange rate. Plus they find the tires to fit your car.

In my opinion, the comparatively light Z4 with fairly wide tires needs tires that work well in rain in U.K. and in Oregon (where I live). Soft, gooy summer tires are great for clear days, but don't cut it in the wet. Generally speaking again, Michelin Pilot AS (all season) have been widely recommended. But do go to TireRack and read their reviews. Also, for cheap tires go to eBay. Even with high shipping costs, you can find some real bargains there. Don't discount Asian tires - their factories tend to be newer and have state-of-art tooling.

The Tire Rack review pages are a place to start but be aware that a tire that is positively reviewed on a different car may not behave that well on your Z.
I bought the most highly rated tires on the main Tire Rack review/comparison page and guess what? They were not so hot. I used them for about 5000 miles and switched to a less highly rated tire that grips as well, rides better, doesn't tramline, costs less, and is much quieter in the bargain. |

Jeeeeeeeeeze........Sorry takedown8; I can be a real moron sometimes. No mystery intended.
Here's my tire saga (so far). My Zed came with the dreaded Bridgestone RE 050A run flats and I had all the usual complaints. They were ghastly in every way. After just 2500 miles I had to get rid of them. After a lot of posts on Z4um the consensus seemed to be Michelin PS2. They were not available in the staggered 17" size I needed so after reading the Tire Rack's ratings and reviews I went for the non run flat Bridgestone Pole Position which is a very similar tire with regard to tread pattern as the OEM run flats. These tires were at the absolute top of the ratings. The new tires were a improvement but still did not feel quite right, reduced tramlining, slightly softer ride but quite noisy; I was not real impressed. I dithered around thinking about changing tires AGAIN.....this is at only 7K miles when I decided to just look for new wheels and tires. Shaka from Z4um put a set of CSL 19" with Falken 452 tires on sale and I grabbed them knowing nothing about the Falkens but lusting after the wheels. Lo and behold the Falkens, while not in the league with PS2's and F1's work splendidly. Go Figure. I'm thinkin' there are a gazillion variables about tires and why they work well on some cars and lousy on others. |

The Kumo Ecsta Sport that Vroomer mentioned are really popular with perfomance nuts here in So. Cal. I've heard they're priced very reasonably. |

The Falken 452 seems much quieter than the Bridgestone, I haven't a clue on treadwear as they've only been on the car for a short time.
Hey, Vroomer, what size Kumho's are on your Alpina rims? Did you get a good price ? |
