Official Group Buy: Swaybar Reinforcement Plates for all Z4 (E85/E86)
Some of you may have seen my other thread but I found a local shop who's willing to create a pair of 1/8" reinforcement plates for the stock swaybar mount. The cost is a little more than what I originally tried for but keep in mind these are all built by hand. What years will it fit? Based on realoem, this should fit all 2003-2008 Z4 regardless of motor since they all share the same part number 31351094552 Why would I need this? More than a few of us have experienced our front sway bars rip out from the factory mounting points. The metal used there is rather thin and is subject to fatigue over time. This is exacerbated by those who have upgraded to a thicker front sway, stiffer springs, stickier tires or any combo. Add to that some hard driving from the track and it's a just a matter of time. Example: I've inquired with different vendors to see if there's any kit currently out there but I've only seen applications for e30 or subframe reinforcements for e46. Group buy details: There is only a minimum of 5 orders but no max yet. The cost again is $30 shipped to anywhere in 48 states (sorry no international buyers yet). I'm not making a dime on this and this was the best price I could negotiate based on a minimum order of 5 pairs. Please keep in mind these are being made by hand so I can't give an exact ETA on orders above 5 but once I have confirmed 5 buyers I'll get the best estimate possible. Also please note although the plates are based on a template off my car, even on my car left and right sides were not identical which goes to show there's going to be some tolerance variance among cars. However, the holes will be drilled wide enough where it should fit or at most require minimal further drilling. Lastly I make no guarantees or warranties on this but I'm quite happy with how my turned out below. Remember, prep is the key when welding! Matching up the template: Welding up both sides: Nice coat of paint to prevent rust : Let paint dry, mount everything back up: Last edited by 3002 tii; 10-06-2013 at 06:14 PM.. |

I'll take a set. I remember doing something similar on my 3 series. Please add me to the list.

Wow, 10 buyers already. OK guys, I said I would collect payment after 5 but seeing how other GB's have gone where payment is sent and you guys end up waiting for a while, I'm going to first talk to my guy today to see realistically how much time he'll need for an order of 10 pairs. I'll take into account the lead time and maybe collect a little before that. I don't want to hold onto anyone's money for an extended period of time, hope you guys understand!
Also does anyone want to volunteer and be the guinea pig among the M guys? I'm thinking maybe I'll have him make 1 prelim order and send it out to a member on the list just so he/she can comment on fitment, rather than send 10 orders that all require some further modification. Again I expect the fitment to be the same but want to minimize risk if possible. |

I'll look into it but I'm almost certain it'll be cheaper to find a local shop that can help fabricate this for you.
