"New" Z4 tomorrow!
hello
First of all let me say FINALLY!! after 3 years of being off and on the car market i finally found my Z4. a key point for me was the navigation system. i cannot stand the stock BMW non nav sound system. the small red screen can jump off a bridge. ok so my ideal Z4 would have been a 2005 sterling grey metallic/black leather 3.0i 6 speed Navigation sport, heated seats, m seats, conveniece, and premium sound. i found one but it slipped away from me due to timeing. i now found a 2004 3.0i Alpine white, with red m seats black interior, navigation sport premium convenience and premium sound with 30k miles. and the best thing about it is that its built 08/04 thus the top down with key fob and auto down windows...(is there anythign else?) at first i was hesitant about white untill i saw pics of Z4's M3's M5's and E90's and fell in love leaving tomoorw morning at 0500 to drive 3.5 hrs to get it. excited? yes will i be able to sleep tonite? probably not just a few questions... 1) what are the dealer activated options? i want the DRL's and 3 blink turn signals 2) what is this ive been hearing about free navigation discs from BMW? is it two free ones with every z? 3) can you watch DVD movies with the Nav? 4) any particular things i should look for (problem wise) on the Z4 before driving off? Ok new contributions to the alpine white picture thread thanks steven |

ok picked up the z yesterday and here are the pics
http://good-times.webshots.com/album...ions/FullAlbum i find the 1-2 gears annoying! i might look into this CDV thing ive been reading about.. also i live in PA and we dont have front licenseplates. i got the car in va and they screwed 4 screws into the front bumper and it looks like hell. ive decided not to go with one of thoes chrome bmw roundel plates since i dont like the idea of throwin more badges on a car. ive decided to do a custom white euro german plates. i plan on "E 85-SERV" E85= if you have to ask you shouldnt be here and SERV= first four letters of my last name.. ive been checking out the www.germanplates.com and they take 1-3 weeks cus they will be shipped from germany. my question is there a place in the US that makes these as well? can you link me a webpage?? thanks all
i just ordered it from autoplates.com based in FL.. it came out to be 52.60 shipped. includes custom plate, mounting frame, mounting screws, and 2 registration decals.. not bad IMO all i need to do now is take it to the dealer to activate a few things and then buy a passenger side cup holder replacement because its broken. I have noticed a potential problem.. when i turn the key to the position where everything lights up, i hear a flapping noise coming from inside the dash somewhere. is this normal? any advise? |

Sucks about the front bumper. You should get the aero kit front wing...much nicer than stock IMO.

'04 Z4's didn't come out until November, '03. Even if the original owner bought it in November, '03, the 4-year warranty would still be in effect right now since it has less than 50K miles.

now a question about the OEM shift knob. there is some wear and scratches on the right side of it. im assuming due to the previous owner wearing rings on the right hand. i would like to sand repaint and clear the shifter. Can the silver plastic piece to it be easily removed? or maybe, can the leather part be easily removed? |

IMO, don't bother fixing the gear konb. Just go and order yourself a (BMW OEM) ZHP shortened gear knob. Shifting will be so much smoother and you'll be amazed how much difference it makes and how much more fun driving becomes.

+1 on the ZHP knob... works great!
I understand that LeatherZ is out of stock & it's no longer listed. IDK what the reasons are though.

I bought 2 of them a year ago and use 1 as a spare when the main gear knob wears out some day.

Two things though, 1) You don't need to get the shift boot for the Z4. Just the knob is enough. 2) The Z4M knob is CRAP compared to the ZHP knob. Don't know why they even brought up the Z4M knob in the thread.
