Launching in 2nd gear
Well, Yes I guess you can say I was a little bored. The other night I was thinking about this for a while. So I decided to try it today. Turned on my Navi and reset all the timers. It was mighty cold and a bit damp today.
First 3 Launches I did 0-60 at 2,500 RPM with minimal spin and was able to get 4.5 Seconds each time. in 1st gear Well than I tried 2nd gear. 1st Try : 5,000 RPM took off and slightly let off the gas way too much due to wheel spin and got 5.6 seconds to 60. 2nd Try : Tought that I was spinging too much and brough it down to 4,000 RPM, less wheel spin but seemed to bogg out slightly before it hit higher RPMS result was 5.1 to 60. 3rd Try : I went up to 5,300 RPM and let it go it finally hooked at 30MPH and the result was insane 4.3 Seconds 4Th and finaly : 6000 RPM let it go spun a millisecond cause I played with the accel and it hooked right away. Final result was 4.0 seconds Flat. Totaly got rid of the 1-2 shift. It was insane. I did this with the navi unit and its pretty accurate. I wanna set up the Gtech in the car and get a vid. Well thanks for reading my pointless thread

How did you do it? Just started and stopped the timer when you went?

right before i hit 60 on the navi screen it has a stop and start time. and it has the MPH on the same page, right before i hit 60 i looked down on the navi it said 60 and it had the seconds right next to it, so right at 60 thats what the time was. but after 60 the clock kept going...

Never tried launching in 2nd before... sounds like it will cause premature wear on drivetrain specifically the engine, tranny, and clutch.
Especially at 4k rpm.

Well you can hit 3.8 if you rev more, but that means you can do it 3-4 times before it costs you a drivetrain. at least a clutch.
This car is not very efficient at dragging, hence why they put a 4.35 ratio in it to make up for it and have comparable 0-60 times to the cayman S. However it really excels on the track. You can check @gmd2003 's supercharged car with some suspension and brake work running with super cars and humiliating them on the track. |

Wait...you guys are talking about a stock Z4M here??? I've tested it myself (RDSport exhaust, RPI scoop) and my fastest time was 4.7s 0-60. Keep in mind, that our reaction time to start/stop the timer is critical. I bought an app for my phone and it starts the timer as soon as your car moves forward from a standstill., my worst time was 5.6 seconds.
4.5, 4.3, 4.0, and 3.8 sounds impossible. Then again, I don't know that because I've never launched in 2nd gear |

It's called dynolicious. Haven't used it in a while, but it uses your GPS and Bluetooth for accuracy. IIRC, it was about $10. It allows you to enter the weight of the car, tank size, how many gallons of gas you have in the tank while running, passengers, cargo. 0-60 times and more depending on what you want you just set it up. Also has a skip pad, not sure if it's all accurate though.
