Engine noise upon shutoff..normal?
Hi all,
I am new here, and not new to BMWs, but just took ownership of my first M car. While the "discovery" period of my 2006 z4m roadster has been mostly awesome, there are some things I am not sure are normal, and maybe I can get answers. When I turn of my car, it doesn't sound "smooth". My previous BMWs (z3, 5 series) don't make this sound, and I am wondering if this is the s54's nature. Upon turning the ignition to the Off position, the engine doesn't come to a low burble, but rather has a "rattle" noise. It sounds a lot like the engine stalls, like when you would let off your clutch in gear. Is this normal? The car has 29k miles on it. Thanks for any advice! |

Welcome! What you're probably hearing is clutch rattle which is common with our cars and nothing to worry about. Next time you turn your car off, have the clutch pedal fully depressed: the rattle should be gone.
