Very true - people do it everyday at car dealerships around the country. $17k is likely more than ZStig would've gotten at Carmax. IIRC someone on here sold a Z4M roadster stock 60k miles to Carmax for $16k last year.

#2 I spend about $40k in upgrades and maintenance over the past 6 years that I've had the car. The mod upgrades were 100% worth it, because I've had the car long enough to enjoy them. All the way from 25k miles, up to the current 89k miles #3 I'm more happy than upset to move on, especially since its going to a good home. I have settlement on a new house this summer, and it helps to have that cash buffer. I really wanted to get at least $20k for it, but I'd rather take $17k now, than spend 6 additional months trying to find the $20k buyer

As you get older, Time > Money. And parting a car, reselling the parts, and returning to OEM can be a nightmare.
Some guys estimated it would go for $15k, so you didn't do too badly in that regard.

I would have considered selling the supercharger separately, if I had all the stock parts. When I moved, I left the stock airbox in Philly

Wonder
I see on here all the time how people "steal" these cars and everything goes way too cheap, but isn't that dictated by the market not what we think they are worth? This car did seem to sell less than I thought, but then it sounds like he did all he could to market and sell it short of piecing it out.
That went cheaper than I paid for my 04 3.0 I bought several years ago, but I knew I was over paying for it when I bought it as it was as close to everything I had been looking for (color combo, wheels, options, cleanliness, etc) as I had found anywhere, so I pulled the trigger. It was a few years ago and was 1/2 the mileage, but was not an M and had none of these upgrades. Do you guys EVER see more than a few cars going for what you THINK they are worth? I seem to see a big difference on what the forum thinks they are worth and what I can buy one for when I look, but maybe I don't see all the prime examples you guys do. I see cars on the classifieds all the time with comments like "this is a steal" yet no one buys them. When I was looking and saw one with these kind of mods, I immediately moved on. I did the same when I looked for and bought my TTZ 15 years ago. I assume anyone (like me) who added those mods (like me) would drive it with their foot to the floor more times than not (like me). Just because I drove my TTZ hard after I modded it did not mean I did not take care of it, but I would certainly see why someone would rather find a non-modded version owned by an 80 year old lady that bought it when it was new. I also did not part it out when I sold it (after buying the Z4) because once you are ready to sell, spending all that time undoing what you did just seems exhausting. When I was selling it I got tons of "man, if you can wait 2 months I will take it for sure...." emails as well and none of them came to pass as is usually the case. You can kick yourself to death listening to those. In the end it sold to a guy who knew the cars, came and saw it several times and got comfortable with me and the fact I had indeed kept it up as I should have and under the mods it was a well cared for car. If you feel ok with what you got for it - move on and enjoy your next project. If you are buying cars to make money - you are probably in the wrong game! =) Good luck finding your next money pit and enjoy the hell out of it.

Regardless, I think you did alright, stig. As you mentioned, 17k now vs. 20k later - and you're done with it. No hassles. In 2 years when you look back, you won't be sweating 3-5k. Hell, you could turn that 17k into 20k in the 6 months it would take to wait for the "right" buyer. Time for new/better things |

But if you have a bbk, special wheels, or that swaybar on that car, that bolts off relatively easy and will make easy money. Demand on aftermarket hop up parts is high as there are always a lot of enthousiasts. Demand on modified cars is low: all enthousiasts already have a car (they just want the bits)

I think in the case of zeds the market is looking for unmolested cars. A box-stock 89K Z4MR, in similar condition with similar records and history, would have brought more. |

well done on the sale... i will be sad to see you go man, you one of the OGs here for me anyway, i really wish you all the best moving forward in life and business!
personally id have rather took it off the road, stored it and forget about it then sell for 17k... you could have easily revisited this in a few years and just had a blast driving around. But then its a near 100k mile supercharged s54... its going to need some decent preventative work now and it wont be cheap.

http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/cto/5917121443.html was a great temporary fun car, with 0 reliability issues. Now I'm looking for a 997tt, my realistic dream car

Testing both I found--to my chagrin--the PDK keep boost on full boil. Despite the variable vane turbo there's still some lag when shifting gears. TPC makes that module for the .1 as well I think. Great mod. |

Thats a good pick.
Together with the GT3 / RS the last manual with a mezger engine but still pretty affordable

I think you will be very happy with the Turbo and especially with a manual. Although it's a much different experience from your M Coupe though. |
