Because VF claims the kit to produce 570 hp to the crank....which is why it is named as such. But I do agree, you should expect at least 10 hp/pound of boost

270whp x [(14.7 + boost_psi) / 14.7] A ballpark estimate is 435 whp, not including variables such as drag, heat, tuning, efficiency ranges, or modifications in the exhaust. It is a quick down-and-dirty estimate. Considering the OP's mods, he's putting down similar power to a kit running 6 psi, not 9 psi. If your pressure at the throttle bodies is 9 psi, I would start looking at the other factor - the engine and exhaust. It could be something mechanical (maybe a clogged cat) or the supercharger's tune. If AFR's look correct and the everything else that's external checks out, I would consider a compression/leakdown.

Yes sadly, RatedMRoadster is pulling 470+rwhp and 330+rwtq with the same hardware and software, hence why I'm so disappointed
I know Andrew's car has two cats LESS than mine, but that shouldn't account for my loss of 80-90rwhp |

P3 gauge can do it and very affordable. It may give you some data.
What did they change while you were there and what do they say about your numbers? How did they tune it, if they didn't dyno it while you were there to see the numbers weren't fixed? Last edited by seank; 07-14-2013 at 09:02 PM.. |

VF said that they found throttle linkage hindered, some loose couplers, check valve, and other miscellaneous missing items when I bought from EAS. They tweaked my tune so that it wouldn't run so rich, and did before-and-after dyno on their in-house Mustang dyno. The improvement was significant, and car smoothed out a bit driveability-wise, but evidently not as strong as RatedMRoadster's car |

Good news! VF says that they've been digging through their records and have found that my particular charger unit seems to be an old one with different impeller and stuff. They're going to send me a new unit free of charge since they for whatever reason didn't think about checking the serial plate on the charger last time when I was there in their shop in person

You're probably going to want to change the tune. Isn't the one you're running custom-dynoed to the funky s/c? |

That's the most important part. To buy from a supplier that wants to deliver a good working system, and when things dont run up to specs keep digging until the problem is solved. (all these kits are alway's 'somewhat experimental')
That they oversee a compressor serial plate.....things happen.

If it was the older V3 series, they flow less at the same boost. That could account for the loss. I had read someone else on this forum had the same thing happen (may want to search).
This guy had similar incompatibility issue with an older VF charger But, I thought EAS's kit was the "newest" version since it seemed to have been fairly recent? Not sure... worth investigating how long they had that kit before selling it.

EAS originally had the 420 kit, then upgraded to the 570. Maybe that's where VF lost track of the history on this kit?
But yes, I strongly believe that my charger kit is flowing much less air at the same boost as the proper charger unit that I'm supposed to have. Only one way to find out, and that's to get the charger units swapped out and go for a redyno |

Never updated this thread. So, fast-forward a little over half a year or so.............
VF has rescinded their offer to update my blower for me, saying that they used to be able to make a little money off selling user blowers to an unnamed client, but they no longer purchase used blowers. They claim that it's a little over $400 to update the blower trim, but I haven't been able to contact the proper personnel over @ Vortech so I'll get to it eventually maybe. But more importantly, I've since ditched VF's shitty in-house tune and went with a custom tune by Frank Smith. Frank and I are currently in on the third datalogging trial and the car has improved tremendously in both drivability and power output. Once everything's good to go, I will schedule for another dyno session at a local race shop that has a Dynojet. Will update thread when necessary Last edited by mfanatic325; 04-16-2014 at 02:34 PM.. |
