M People Post your Hitch Designs!
Hey all,
I'm starting to build my car towards a slightly BSP prepped car (TCK DA coming this upcoming year, with probably LTW flyweel). Anyways, I'm going to start running R-Comps once I burn off my RS3s, so I need to start looking into a tow-hitch design so I can transport tires. A friend who had a Z4 gave me this picture, but I don't know if the rear of our cars are the same: Can anyone post actual designs of their hitch so I have something to work off of? Thanks! |

I am about to start a Group Buy for hitch for Z4M & M Coupe for people who would like to bring a trailer like HF trailer (wheels/tires, fuel jugs, tools, ...) or just a bike rack.
If I can get 20 peoples at a decent price where I am not working for free..., I can fabricate & paint or powder coat hitches this fall before Christmas. I would also provide a wiring diagram to connect the 4 pins/5 wires to the car for trailer brake and flasher lights. I will start my own thread if there is interest. Marc |

A Z4 hitch is different than a Z4M / M Coupe hitch just because the rear bumper isn't the same.
The Z4 is lower than the Z4M/Z4MC. If you want to preserve the oem rear diffuser, you must cut the bumper grill and go through it with the 1 7/8'' ball mount. VS |

Makes sense. I'm assuming you can completely take the mount off when you're inbetween events so you don't have a huge ball mount hanging off your bumper?
More pictures of what it would look like w/the trailer off and the diffuser cut would be appreciated (if you have time). I'm trying to get the least intrusive thing done. Basically, when the mount is off, I don't want anyone to know there is a connection hitch hiding behind that diffuser. |

I had a hitch welded up for me by a local body shop/machinist.

I'm very interested as well. But I would like to see a design that can lower the positioning for the equipment i.e have the wheels and tools box be mounted lower if possible than the pictures in this thread.
something like this or lower

I will start a Testing Water thread in approximately a month to test the market to see how many people would be interested to buy custom hitch for the Z4MR/Z4MC platform. Right now, I am way too busy to do that.
Ideally, the hitch would go through the grill in the rear bumper. You can put a straight ball mount with no riser to lower the attachment point. But the trailer need to be to the level to avoid to have too much weight on the tongue. With the Harbor Freight trailer, it's possible to put the leaf springs under the axle to lower the trailer. I have one at home and I will try to modify it and see how low I can drop it I am also looking to fabricate a custom trailer that will be lower than the harbor freight, 4'x6' so I can bring more wheels, tools, fuel jugs, EZ-UP tent,..., at the track. |
