Can you buy just the headlight housings?
My headlights keep turning yellow and clouding up, not sure why. Is it possible to just buy new clear headlight housings? Not the lights themselves, but just the clear plastic covers?
Thanks for any suggestions! |

Sadly, you can't buy just the plastic covers. Maybe the headlights need to be released IF there is moisture on the inside. If it's happening on the outside, I recommend polishing them and instantly installing a clear bra on them.. I use Lamin-X headlight film, they are super easy to install and help protect against yellowing/fading etc. Cheers
PS. If you go with Lamin-x, use coupon code (signup10) for 10% off. =) |

Even if you could buy the housing and lens together, you would have to crack them back open to swap over the internals! I would sand and polish your current headlights and then either install Lamin-X covers or put a really good sealant on every 6 months.
Here's a link to the Lamin-X covers. I'm planning to put them on my M in a few months after I respray the front end and put on a clear bra. https://www.lamin-x.com/precut-film-...ht-covers.html If you don't go that route, I used Chemical Guys Jet Seal on my Miata's headlights and re-apply it every 6 months. No issues with yellowing after a year and some change.

Since you had yours customized my guess is that he didn't reseal well enough when closing the housing back up. Ask your installer what his opinion is.
I know there are some places that sell just the plastic covers but not sure about their quality or if they make them for the Z |

I wonder if the shop that built your custom lights perhaps didn’t seal the lights correctly. If the yellowing is happening from outside, I recommend Meguiar’s heavy duty headlight restoration kit. It did wonders to my 328i. It was recommended to me by another forum member. That kit comes with a sealant. If you prefer, you can get the Lamin-X clear film for that extra protection. If, and I mean IF, the yellowing doesn’t clear up to satisfying standards, you could always get a lamin-X tinted film. Same protection, but the darker tint will hide the yellow haze as well as give it an aggressive look. Worth a shot

thanks for the suggestions everyone!
My friend came by last night and brought his headlight polishing kit. We went over it thoroughly, and they look brand new now. Going to get the Lamin-X kit, as many of you recommended. Thankfully the yellowing was all on the outside. Here's the process below, before and after: |
