Exclamation Cooling Fan

Hi,
Has anyone else noticed that when they turn their ingnition off, there is a fan still running at the front of the car and the air vents behind the kidney grill are still open. I have noticed this two days running after my commute to work (which is only 15 miles). I could understand this fan staying on if I lived in a hot climate but the past couple of mornings have been frosty ones. My dealer tells me that the engines in new BMWs run considerably hotter than previously but I smell some BS here! Any thoughts or views appreciated.

Thanks

It is normal, the same is with my X6 and X5, notwithstanding the outside temperature it is cooling down the engine to certain temp before switching off.

this is the secondary cooling system to cool down the turbos, without it turbo bearings would cook. In the old days you would have to spend 5 to 10 minutes after you arrived somewhere to let your car idle so the bearings could cool down before you turned off the engine and thus the oil supply.

Excellent, thanks for your response. That makes perfect sense. Shame that my dealer could not have told me that.
