Where is the EWS Relay?
Hello folks, I'm having an intermittent start issue on my 03 2.5i.
I turn the key and the lights on the dash turn on but no crank. I've already swapped out the ignition switch. I've pushed the clutch pedal in all the way and held it, had a non-start, retry, retry, start --> Clutch pedal sensor seems good. INPA tells me my car may have an EWS fault. Does anyone know where the EWS relay is? I'd like to bypass it to verify the fault. Thank you!

Hooked up an LED to see if my starter relay is getting voltage. It is not getting voltage when the car doesn't crank -> problem is upstream from starter relay.
Here's how I did it: 20mA limited LED (+) Black/yellow wire (-) Body ground R = 500Ohm in series Make sure you hook up the LED in the correct direction (longer lead is + side)

I think I found it. It's the white thing in the upper part of this picture.

I had this issue in the past drove me nuts. I pulled the ews module to read ews data, when I put it back the car would not start no matter what.
I have no clue how it fixed itself I do remember unplugging the battery pulling the ews and connecting the ground pin on the ews to a ground to get it to reset back to normal. I would unplug the ews for a while to rid it of static and plug it back in. also If you haven't unplugged the car battery i would do that as well to get everything set back to 0. if I recall correctly I basically got so frustrated that I just let the car sit with everything plugged back in (battery and ews) and after about 4 hours goggling the problem I came back and the car just started. like nothing had every happened. I have an 03 2.5

Hahaha, rkstar, I know your pain. This problem has been a nuisance on this car. It always starts but sometimes takes 5-10 retries and seems to have gotten worse recently. I pray that the damn part in fault just BREAKS so I can track it down but it's intermittent so it's very hard to find. It's like a sniper that shoots at you every 3-5 days. Right when you get comfortable it reminds you it's there.
I'm being rather methodical here to track down the source of the problem. I'll report back as soon as I figure out what it is.

Shorting leads 1 & 2 seems to help things. I think the relay in the EWS is going bad. Don't really need it since the car won't start without the correct key anyways, right?
