Maybe it's just me, but I can't tell what you're asking. Your VIN is your VIN - what's the problem?

Im not asking for vin number, I am asking for the production number out of 1815 that are produced for NA.

According to spreadsheet and according to what's posted, the production number differs, so which one is correct?

The VIN numbers aren't sequential. Sometimes a VIN will be assigned but since cars are painted in batches (i.e. Interlagos cars gets painted together) so the order they roll off of the assembly line is different. Take a look at the spreadsheet and you'll see that even in the first 20 numbers or so that the VIN number listings aren't in order.

Yes. The spreadsheet has the actual BUILD DATE and has the correct order. Depending on how you interpret it.

VIN is assigned when a production order is entered. However, if you look at the spread sheet, they paint like color cars together. Especially for ///M only colors, like interlagos blue, imola red, and sepang bronze. So even though a certain VIN may be assigned first, it could wait for an extra day (or even up to an extra WEEK like mine) to be grouped with another batch to be painted in the same color, therefore the the VIN numbers are out of order compared to the actual finish of production.

That's actually my Google Docs spreadsheet that I uploaded the original XLS into. After my ///M coupe got totaled, I never really got around to finishing updating the colors, etc.

Wouldn't it make more sense to go with the order of the VIN and not production date? For a batch of cars that have the same production date, how can you tell what order they really came out that day?

I think the OP is trying to establish whether his car is really #615 out of 1815 but since several cars have the same build date, it can easily be any number from 596 to 623, which all have production date of 10/31/2006.

Unless this is the official number assigned by BMW? Is it?
